pick it up and arrange your chairs properly.

Now, let us check the attendance,

class secretary, do we have absentees today? I am glad to report that everybody is present.

It is nice to hear that all are present today.

I will now check your assignments. Please pass

it to the center isle and then pass it forward. (The students will pass their assignments)

B. Recall

Class, do you still remember our previous

lesson? Yes ma’am.

If that so, can you tell something about our last

topic?
We discussed the poem “I Watch You Go” by
Susanah Thompson.

Yes! And what does that poem tell us about? It speaks about saying goodbye to someone we
love.

That is correct! So, do you think it is just

alright to let someone or something go that (Students’ answer may vary)
really special to us? Why or why not?

Very well said! Do you have any question or

None, ma’am.
clarification regarding our topic last time?

If none, then let us proceed to our lesson for

today.

C. Motivation

I have prepared cut-out pictures, so you will be

divided into 4 groups. Each group will solve
the pictures and then you will make a Hugot
(The students will do the activity)
Line about them. Every group will select two
representatives to present in front.

Okay class, what have you noticed about the

activity?

The pictures speak about love, sacrifice and

letting go.

That’s right! Good observation, all of the

pictures represent unconditional love. That
activity is somehow related to our lesson for
today.

D. Lesson Proper

Have you read the selection “Wedding Dance”

which I told you to do?

Yes, ma’am.

Did you understand it?

Yes, ma’am.

Very good! But to better understand, we will

further discuss it by identifying the different
elements in the story.

Does anyone have an idea what the story is all

about?
The story is about the situation of a couple who has
a problem in having a baby.
Precisely! It gives emphasis and importance of
having a child between married couple.

What else?

It shows how a certain culture and tradition affects

That is also right! The story put the character in the lives of people.
a situation where he needs to choose between love
and following his traditions.

Now, let us discuss each element that the short

story has. Let’s start with the characters, who
can give one?

We have Awiyao, husband of Lumnay and

male in the story who loves his wife, but left
her because she can’t produce a child for him
that is why he has to marry another woman.

Who can give another character in the story?

Another character is Lumnay, wife of Awiyao.

She is beautiful, a good dancer, strong in
planting beans, and a good housekeeper.
Yes! That is correct! We have Lumnay, a
woman who was left by her husband because
she can’t bear a child. Is there any character?

Madulimay, Awiyao’s new wife.

Of course, the last one is Madulimay, the new
wife of Awiyao. We have three characters.

The next is the setting, as you have read, where

did the story happen?

The story took place in the mountain

somewhere in the Philippines and in the house
of Awiyao and Lumnay.
That’s right!

Have you distinguished the conflict of the

story, can anyone tell it to us? The conflict is Man vs Society, because Awiyao
needs a child to affirm his virtuality and to
establish his place among his tribesmen so he
decided to leave Lumnay and marry
Exactly! It is Man vs Society because it is said Madulimay.
that there is an unwritten law in their tribe’s
customs “that a man may take another woman,
if his wife can’t give him a child” and he needs
to follow it.

Let us now talk about the sequence of events in

the story, tell the plot into a chronological
order. How the story begins?

The story started on the night of the wedding of

Awiyao and Madulimay, Awiyao went to his
and Lumnay’s house where they used to live to

to join the dance. Then, what happened next?

They had a heart to heart talk about their

separation, and on their conversation they found
out that they still love each other but they have
to separate because there is an unwritten law on
their tribe’s custom that every man should have
one or more child that would carry his name

talking because Lumnay can’t let go Awiyao.
So much intense felt in the story when they
stated that they still love each other.

What came after that?

Lumnay can hardly let go of her husband. The

two both agreed that if Awiyao’s second
marriage did not work, he will go back to
Lumnay’s arms and this was sealed by the

Awiyao goes back to the wedding because

he had no choice but to go back to the

wedding. After being fetched by others, what
comes next?
Lumnay decided to go to the wedding not to
dance or to join the celebration but to stop the

dancing ground, away from the village.

Now, how the story ended up?

Lumnay went to the mountain where she

diverted all her bitterness and she partly
reminisce their story of Awiyao.
Yes! That is how the story ended up.

After we discussed the other parts, what do you

think is the theme of the story?

Based on how I understand the story, I think the

theme is about sacrificing. True love is all about
sacrifices and hope.
Indeed! The story only tells us that if we truly
love a person, we must let him/her take the
road to happiness no matter how painful it is to
us.
Do you have any question about the story we
have discussed?

Very good! I am glad that you really

understand the story “Wedding Dance.”

E. Generalization

Now, what are the lessons you’ve learned in

the selection?

I have learned that one of the important gifts that

God has given us is the freedom of choice. The
freedom to choose on what we want to do and how
we do to those things. It is but a shame that
sometimes we easily decide on things without
thinking about it twice or as many times as possible
that we end up having regrets of the sudden
You are right! We can't always expect that the
decisions we have made.
decisions we make are the right ones, thus, we must
always think before we act and whatever the result
of that decision may be, we must have the heart to
accept it.

Who has another answer?

It made me realized that sometimes, you need to

sacrifice and give up everything just to make your
love one happy. Even how painful it is, you need to
accept the truth because true love is neither selfish
nor greedy. True love always gives a way and have
the power to make all things right.

Very well said!

IV. Application

one between two things that really special to you.

V. Evaluation
The students will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will create a short presentation based
on the theme of the story, “Loving is about sacrificing.” The presentation will only take 25
minutes including the preparation and performance. They will be assigned to perform the
following:

1. Lights, Camera, Action!

2. Sing and Act it!
3. Dear Uge!
4. Chika Minute!
