JOINING INSTRUCTIONS - BRISTOL & GLOUCESTERSHIRE L98A2 IWT AND WHT WING
INITIAL TRAINING AT AZIMGHUR BARRACKS 21 SIGNALS RTW

General
1. To provide Staff and Cadets from Bristol & Gloucestershire Wing opportunity to complete a 2
day non-residential concurrent activity Initial Weapon Training (IWT) for L98A2 (Cadet GP Rifle) at
Azimghur Barracks 21 Signals RTW Classrooms on 24th & 25th June 2023.
This will be for Cadets who want to complete the Initial Weapon Training on the L98A2 Cadet GP
Rifle and is open to all cadets and CFAV(Limited staff numbers) The IWT is planned to take place
over 2 days so Cadets/Staff wishing to attend MUST be available for both Saturday & Sunday in
order so that they can be taught all mandatory lessons and undertake a Weapon Handling Test.
All Students wishing to attend are required to be instructed on and adopt the prone, kneeling,
sitting and standing firing positions. Students must be physically able to adopt these positions
indoors and outdoors and support the weapon system.
Aim
2. The aim for this period is to:
a. To allow Cadets to complete IWT on L98A2 and complete a WHT
b. To allow Cadets who have been previously trained and experienced with L98A2 to
support the event and instructors
c. To give CFAV who are interested in gaining a shooting qualifications to attend to get
involved and see Skill At Arms Lessons
Cadet Attendance
3. The purpose of the IWT is to give cadets opportunity to undertake the necessary training on
the L98A2 over the 2 days and potentially passing the Weapon Handling Test.
Nominations
4. Bids are to be made on the Cadet Portal. Applications for this activity will close at 22:00 on
Wednesday 21st June 2023
Cadets are requested when adding names to SMS event to indicate which location for Pickup e.g.
Cribbs Coach Park
Selected candidates will be accepted on SMS after this point.
Dress and Equipment
5. Dress for all uniformed staff & Cadets will be No 3 SD (CS 95 or PCS-MTP). Civilian
Instructors will wear suitable civilian clothing.

Documentation
6. All personnel are to bring the following with them:
a. MOD90 (CIs will need a photo driving licence or passport)
b. F3822 or My RAFAC App with approved uploaded photo
c. RAF F7257 (staff with SAAI/Range qualifications)

Messing
7. There will be no messing facilities available. All participants are required to bring sufficient
food and drink for the duration of the 2 day activity.
Transport
8. Travel to and from this activity is the responsible of individual Cadets and Staff. When
possible, Unit OCs are to share resources with local units to reduce transport numbers

Timings
9. Day 1 – Arrival for Cadets at Azimghur Barracks (93DF Sqn Building) by 08:30hrs
Day 1 – Finish of Day 1 by 18:00 with Cadets return to pick up locations
Day 2 – Arrival for Cadets at Azimghur Barracks (93DF Sqn Building) by 09:00hrs
Day 2 – Finish of Day 2 by 17:00 with Cadets return to pick up locations
Allocations
10. For this activity the number of Cadets that can attend the weekend IWT is restricted due to
available staff and classroom sizes to 25-30 cadets & 2-4 CFAV, If oversubscribed for the
weekend allocation will be shared among the Wing, Wing Shooting Officer will contact individual
OC's about allocations.
Summary
11. Please make sure all staff and cadets are made aware of this opportunity. Any staff that are
able to attend and help complete any of the above roles are requested to contact undersigned by
16th June 2023.
19. All cadet applications for this activity are to sign up through Cadet Portal (SMS) by 20th June
2023.
