Did You Know?
Sunset Strip Airport and the Cirrone Family

Did you know that Marlboro Township has an airport? Built in the early 1960’s
on St. Peter’s Church Road, Mike Cirrone’s love of aviation led he and his
wife Judy to build Sunset Strip as a place for them to enjoy their shared
interest with fellow aviation enthusiasts.

Mike served on the USS Pueblo in WWII. Following the war, Cirrone was
employed by Ford Motor Company. Using his basic construction experience,
he and fellow coworkers cleared the land and built the runway. The project
was completed in 1969. In 1971 the Cirrone’s built a home on the property
where they raised their children, Ben and Jennifer.

Both Mike and Judy had their pilot’s licenses. Mike loved antique planes and
owned bi-wings, Stearman training planes, and a Waco UPS-7 biplane. As
members of the Ray Patton Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter
147, the Cirrone’s regularly hosted fly-ins and BBQs. They gave flying
lessons and occasional rides to local By Scouts. The airstrip, a commercial
Fixed Base Operator (FBO), handled private, non-commercial aviation
needs for businessmen and contractors coming to the area for work.

Mike passed away in 2013. His son, Ben, has managed the property since his father’s death.
