A1MC Group assignments for Lecturer Assessment 1 (LA 1) June 2016

Presentation on the following cases; summarize on the lessons learnt and


identify the root cause/s. (3 candidates per group. The groups are based on the
attendance list. Maximum 15 minutes inclusive of Q & A session)

Class presentations will be in week 3 & 4.

Preparations: language, structure etc. – 20 marks


Need to submit (group’s basis) written report (not less than 500 words / Font is
Arial 11) of the case prior presenting.

Presentations:
Vocal projection, delivery skill, salient points, accuracy of facts, time- keeping,
fonts used, delegation and summarizing - 15 marks

Participations – 15 marks
Beside the presenter, no other notebooks to be opened during presentations.

Total: 50 marks

Common root causes in previous maritime accidents:


1. In breach of procedures.
2. Do not maintain proper lookout.
3. Do not proceed at safe speed.
4. Do not adhere to industry’s guidelines.
5. Lack of proper passage planning.
6. Lack of communication.
7. Environmental factors.
8. Equipment failures.
