Norwegian Cruise Line Caters to Ever-Increasing Solo Travelers

The cruise line has added almost a thousand single rooms, which are much more
affordable for single travelers

St. Louis—October 7, 2023--Although cruises are typically thought of as a vacation one

takes with family or loved ones, the number of solo travelers has increased
exponentially since the 2000s. The idea of taking a cruise has transformed from just a
vacation to a break from daily life and the pressures of society. However, due to how
expensive most double rooms tend to be, single travelers are “an untapped market”
says Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Coral Boatman.

The cruise line is planning to publicly introduce three new cabin categories, Solo Inside,
Solo Oceanview and Solo Balcony on select ships. On a week-long Alaska cruise, the
company’s most popular package, these cabins can be up to $400 cheaper than a
typical double suite.

Despite the rooms being unavailable to the public yet, Norwegian Cruise Lines has
already received positive feedback from “test travelers,” who were the first people to try
out these suites. Kori Anderson said that “the lower prices are really great for me. I’ve
always wanted to take one of these cruises, but I can’t pay for a double room.” Similarly,
Oliver Wipsycle, a frequent traveler, said that “the cleanliness and room quality are just
as good as I’ve come to expect from Norwegian Cruise Lines.”
