Hello everyone I am ________ I am here today to discuss to you what a telephone

system is but before that let us first discuss the telephone a useful item we use in our
day to day lives to relay words, emotion, and information to another person usually in
a fair amount of distance from us. the first basic phone was created by an italian
inventor Antonio meucci in 1849 though it was further improved by frenchman
charles borseul and then was patented by Alexander Graham Bell a scottish born
inventor, scientist, and engineer in march 7, 1876 and finally in the years 1877-1878 it
became available to be bought by the public and after three years its said that over
49000 telephones were in use so let us go back to main topic of the day how do
telephones work well let us start by showing you a pictorial diagram of a telephone
system(show the pictorial diagram of a telephone system) now let us start with the
two main parts of a telephons first the remote section this oversees the input/output
part of the telephone like the buttons or the keypad lets discuss the inner parts of the
remote section
1. the remote telephone set this part is the one the one that connects the caller to the
one being called.
2. The DMTF encoder. It is a program that changes our voices into vibrations and
then into a set of numbers that can be decoded later on
3. The last part of the remote section is the matrix keypad which we use as an input
device to dial the numbers or landlines of the people we want to call
Let us go on to the remote control section
1. The DPDT switch is a device that consists of six terminals of which two are input
terminals
2. The telephone interfacing unit Is a location between data processors and telephone
units it is a single line interfacing unit that connecting the unit to the LAN and permits
the analog telephone to be operated in the same manner as the intercom master staion
3. The telephone ring detector this is the device that is alerted when a caller wants to
be connected to a telephone so that the telephone will be alerted to rin then alerting
people nearby of the call
4. The dmtf to bcd decoder is a unit that translates the string of numbers that was
recorded by the dmtf encoder to be decoded into binary code form
5. 4-16 the binary code is decoded and put into one of sixteen mutually exclusive
outputs
6. Device status check unit- a device that checks the device status
7. Device switching unit- this is used to open or close a physical connection that is
made between users when a call happens
8. Device status feedback unit-outputs of a system are routed back as inputs as a part
of a signal chain that forms a loop/circuit
9. Relay driver unit- device used in telephone systems to regulate the flow or current
10. Beep tone generator-this device inserts a audible beep into your call to alert you
that your call is being recorded
(when the word is in caps please point to the part being mentioned)
That consists of the two main sections of a telephone system but how does a call work
in motion well ill guide you through it lets say person a wants to call person b well
they will first need the number or landline of the person that they want to call and
input it into the MATRIX KEYPAD OF THE PHONE of the REMOTE
TELEPHONE SET to start the creation of the connection between person a`s
telephone to person b`s the number is then sent to the DPDT SWITCH which is then
sent to the telephone systems TELEPHONE EXCHANGE CENTER from there it is
transferred to TELEPHONE LINE INTERFACING UNIT so that person b`s
telephone gets the signal that it is being called so that person b`s telephone will be
alerted by the TELEPHONE RING DETECTOR to ring and alert person b of person
a`s incoming call and then person b picks up the call which alerts the DEVICE
SWITCHING UNIT to open a pseudo physical connection with person a`s telephone
and so person b starts talking to person a the DMTF ENCODER then translates the
sounds which in this case we will call vibrations into a string of numbers that is then
sent to the DMCF TO BCD DECODER so that it will turn into a set of binary codes
that is then sent to the 4-16 LINE DECODER to be sent again to the person a`s
telephone but now as a set of decoded codes that turn into vibration aka our voice and
then the phone call goes smoothly but while the phone call is happening a few devices
makes sure that it goes smoothly namely the DEVICE STATUS CHECKING UNIT
that makes sure that both the telephone and connection is fine and working the
DEVICE STATUS FEEDBACK UNIT that makes sure that the outputs of the
telephones are routed back as inputs as a part of a signal chain the RELAY DRIVER
UNIT that makes sure that regulates the flow of current and finally the last of them
the BEEPTONE GENERATOR that send us an occasional beep to make sure that we
know that our call is being recorded and so that is all from me _________ thank you
for listening to our group that discussed the pictorial diagram of a telephone system is
you have any questions please procced to ask them if there are no questions I will now
