1. Oil (s=0.82) enters a pump through a 20cm diameter pipe at 40KN/m2. It leaves the pump at 125 KN/m2 through a 15cm diameter pipe. If the flow rate is 75L/s, find the rate at which energy is delivered to the oil by the pump. Assume suction and discharge sides of the pump are at the same elevation. Fig-1 2. A pump drawing water from a reservoir and discharging it into the air at the point B. The pressure at point A in the suction pipe is a vacuum of 10in mercury and the discharge is 3ft3/s determine the total head at point A & at point B with respect to a datum at the base of the reservoir. Fig-2 3. For the water shooting out of the pipe and nozzle under the conditions shown in figure, find the height above the nozzle to which the water jet will shoot. Assume head loss is negligible. Fig-3. 4. A pipe 300m long has a slope of 1 in 100 and tapers from 1m diameter at the higher end to 0.5m at the lower end. The quantity of water flowing is 900L/s. if the pressure at the higher end is 70kpa, find the pressure at the lower end. Fig-4. 5. A certain oil of specific gravity 0.90 is flowing through a taper pipe of 225mm diameter at section 1 & 450 mm diameter at section 2. The flow rate through the pipe is 0.25m3/s & pressure at section 1 & 2 are 100kpa & 50 kpa respectively. Find the head loss & direction of flow. The difference of height between section 1 & 2 is 4.5m. Fig-5. 6. A certain oil (sp.gr. 0.90) is pumped by a 20KW pump to an overhead tank as shown in figure. The efficiency of pump is 80%. Find the flow rate of oil if the head loss is 5m of oil. Fig-6. 7. Oil pumped at the rate of 15L/s through the piping system as shown in figure. The pressure at the point 1 is 250mm of vacuum. Find the total head at points 1 and 2. The specific gravity of oil is 0.8. Fig-7. 8. Water is pumping at the rate of 50L/s from a tank. The pump delivers 9kW of power to the flow. Find, i) the pressure at points 2 & 3 considering no losses. ii) the pressure at point 3 if a total loss equal to 2 times the velocity head at point 3 takes place. Fig-8.
