1. General

The i n t e g r a t e d loudspeaker system i s i n s t a l l e d i n t h e h e l i c o p t e r f u s e l a g e


between frames 4V and 3B. It i s used by t h e h e l i c o p t e r Crew t o broadcast
messages a t a s u f f i c i e n t loudness l e v e l .

2. Description
The system c o n s i s t s of t h e following components:
- 2 loudspeakers 6TD, 7TD (450 W)
- 1 microphone 5TD
- 1 c o n t r o l u n i t 3TD ( c o n t r o l s volume) with preamplifier W450
- 1 a m p l i f i e r 4TD
- 1 r e l a y 2TD
- 1 c i r c u i t breaker 1TD
- 1 f u s e 9TD

3. Operation
The e x t e r n a l loudspeaker system i s s u p p l i e d with dc voltage from a u x i l i a r y
bus PP22 and i s p r o t e c t e d by c i r c u i t breaker 1TD and fuse 9TD i n c o n t r o l
u n i t 2VE.
Heatset-microphone and hand-held microphone a r e connected t o t h e
p i l o t / c o p i l o t junction box o r t o t h e c o n t r o l u n i t .
Switch SI i s s e l e c t e d t o ON and e n e r g i z e s r e l a y 2TD, a c t i v a t i n g a m p l i f i e r
4TD. Then f o u r - p o s i t i o n s e l e c t o r switch on c o n t r o l u n i t i s s e t t o L/S.

I f t h e t o g g l e switch on t h e junction box i s s e l e c t e d t o L/S-FMI, a l l


on-board mirophones may be operated, with c i r c u i t switching g i v i n g t h e
hand-held microphone p r i o r i t y over t h e headset-microphone. S e t t i n g t h e
t o g g l e switch t o ON enables t h e loudspeaker system t o be operated from a
ground s t a t i o n using t h e h e l i c o p t e r a s a r e l a y s t a t i o n .

General
- Troubleshoot i n conjunction with wiring diagram 834-1 i n t h e Wiring
Diagram Manual (WDM) .
- Where possible, check t h a t a l l a s s o c i a t e d e l e c t r i c a l connections a r e t i g h t
and secure.
- Functionally check c i r c u i t breaker SPEAKER 1TD and o t h e r system switches.

- Connect e x t e r n a l power supply (EPU) and s e l e c t b a t t e r y switch 16P on


instrument panel t o BATT OFF/EPU ON.
- Depress c i r c u i t breaker SPEAKER.

834 - 4 INSPECTION FOR CONDITION - EXTERNAL LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM B0 105 S

1. Pul1 c i r c u i t breaker 1TD and unscrew and remove f u s e 9TD from instrument
panel .
2 . Remove turnlock f a s t e n e r s and Cover (4, f i g . 834-2).
Unscrew r i g h t and l e f t f a i r i n g s ( 6 ) and remove them downward from t h e
a i r f rame .
3 . Inspect loudspeaker ( 7 ) and mounting bracket f o r cracks, deformation,
o t h e r mechanical damage, corrosion,'damaged s u r f a c e p r o t e c t i o n , and
s e c u r i t y of i n s t a l l a t i o n .
a. Replace mounting bracket i f cracked o r defomed.

b. P o l i s h out mechanical damager corrosion, and damage t o surface


p r o t e c t i o n using 400 g r i t abrasive c l o t h . A f t e r applying wash primer
(CM 423), touch up with s i n g l e - l a y e r lacquer (CM 407).

C. Tighten loose a t t a c h i n g hardware.

4 . Repair o r r e p l a c e damaged e l e c t r i c a l cable.

5 . Inspect e l e c t r i c a l connections f o r condition and s e c u r i t y ; replace damaged


p a r t s and t i g h t e n l o o s e connector.
6. Replace missing o r damaged lockwires.
7 . Inspect a m p l i f i e r ( 2 ) f o r s e c u r i t y of i n s t a l l a t i o n ; t i g h t e n loose
a t t a c h i n g hardware a s necessary.

8. Inspect p r e a m p l i f i e r f o r s e c u r i t y of i n s t a l l a t i o n , t i g h t e n loose a t t a c h i n g
hardware a s necessary.

1. Connect e x t e r n a l power supply (EPU) and s e l e c t b a t t e r y switch 16P on


instrument panel t o BATT OFF / EPU ON.

2 . Press c i r c u i t breaker SPEAKER on instrument panel; p r e s s c i r c u i t breaker


on p i l o t / c o p i l o t s t a t i o n box.

3 . S e l e c t t o g g l e switch SI on c o n t r o l u n i t 3TD t o ON; r e s e t volume c o n t r o l t o


V.

4 . Move s e l e c t o r switch on c o n t r o l u n i t t o L/S.

5. Connect headset-microphone and hand-held microphone.

6. Broadcast through t h e loudspeaker system by speaking i n t o t h e hand-held


microphone. A t t h e Same time, t u r n up t h e volume a t t h e volume c o n t r o l .

7. Move toggle switch i n junction box t o L/S-FMI.

8. Press p r e s s - t o - t a l k button on c y c l i c s t i c k and make a t e s t broadcast v i a


t h e headset-microphone.

9. Verify p r i o r i t y of t h e hand-held microphone by simultaneously pressing


t h e press-to-talk buttons of t h e hand-held microphone and t h e
headset-microphone.

10. Switch o f f c o n t r o l u n i t 3TD and pul1 c i r c u i t breaker SPEAKER and c i r c u i t


breaker on p i l o t / c o p i l o t s t a t i o n box.

834 - 6 Removal - loudspeaker


1. Pul1 c i r c u i t breaker 1TD and unscrew and remove f u s e 9TD on instrurnent
panel .
2. Remove t u r n lcck f a s t e n e r s and Cover ( 4 , f i g . 834-2). Unscrew r i g h t and
l e f t f a i r i n g s (6) and remove them downward from t h e airframe.
3. Disconnect angle connectors (8 and 6, f i g . 834-3) of r i g h t and l e f t
loudspeaker f rom amplif i e r (1).
4. Unscrew bonding jumpers ( 4 and 5) f rom mounting bracket; disconnect
e l e c t r i c a l l e a d from a n t i - c o l l i s i o n l i g h t (5, f i g . 834-2).
5. Remove clamps (10, f i g . 834-3) from mounting bracket. Remove four screws
(1, f i g . 834-2) from each loudspeaker and remove loudspeaker.

Install loudspeaker in reverse order of removal.

834 - 8 Removal - amplifier


1. Pul1 circuit breaker 1TD and unscrew and remove fuse 9TD.
2. Remove turnlock fasteners and cover (4, fig. 834-2).
3. Disconnect electrical lead from anti-collision light (5) and disconnect
angle connectors (6, 7 and 8, fig. 834-3) from amplifier (1); unscrew and
remove bonding jumper (9).
4. Remove four screws from cover (2) and two screws (11) from mounting
bracket. Remove cover by pulling downward and carefully pul1 amplifier out
of mounting bracket.
