CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY OF SIWES
The student work experience scheme (SIWES) was established by the industrial training fund (ITF)
1973 to enable students of tertiary institution have basic technical knowledge of industrial work base
on their course of study before completion of their program in their respective institution. It is use to
solve the problem of lack of adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by
Nigerian graduates for tertiary institution.
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is also the accepted training programme
which is part of the approved Minimum Academic Standard in the various degree programmes for
all Nigerian Universities.
The major background behind the emergence of students in SIWES and the foremost reason why this
scheme was designed to expose students to industrial environment and enable them develop
occupational competencies so that they can readily contribute their quota to national economic and
technological development after graduation
The industrial training fund’s policy document No.1 of 1973 which established SIWES outlined the
objectives of the scheme. The objectives are to;
Provide an avenue for students in higher institution to acquire industrial skills and
experiences during their courses of study.
Prepare students for industrial work situations that they are likely to meet after graduation.
Expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that
may not be available in their institutions.
Make the transition from school to the world of work easier and enhance students contact for
later job placements.
Provide students with the opportunities to apply their educational knowledge in real work
situations thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The primary objective of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) which was
kept in view throughout the course of this training is for students to put into practice what
they are taught theoretically in class on site and also familiarize themselves with the basic
work ethics as is done in the industry working situation they are likely to experience after
graduation.
CHAPTER TWO
The school was established due to lack of students interest in ICT practicals and teachers
lackadaisical towards impacting correct practicals in all computer and ICT courses
Their mission is that a company committed to high ethical standards, adding value towards
customer’s satisfaction and guaranteeing reas1onable returns to its shareholders.
Their vision is to provide excellent services to company’s clients and to be a dependable source of
revenue to the University of Ibadan.

CHAPTER THREE
The first knowledge I gathered at the training was how to open MACROMEDIA
DREAMWEAVER it is use to write some codes like HTML,CSS,JAVA,JAVASCRIPT e.t.c for
web developers. So i learnt how to write some HYPER TEXT MARKUP LANGUAGE (HTML)
and CASCADED STYLE SHEET (CSS) in macromedia dreamweaver .
A good web developer must know how to use this software because it is very
important in website development
MACROMEDIA DREAMWEAVER is important for the 2 types of developers
1. FRONT-END DEVELOPERS: They are the developers that uses Corel draw, adobe
photoshop to design the front page of a website that will look exciting when we visit a
website
2. BACK-END DEVELOPERS: They are the developers that write the code running in the
background of the website but the code can never be seen when we visit the website. They
uses some languages such as HTML,CSS.JAVA,JAVASCRIPT,PYTHON e.t.c
Corel draw is an application used in designing fliers, banners, billboards e.t.c although if you are not
taught it is not easy to know one oneself but if you are a professional on using those applications you
will also have people that will benefits from you and you will also benefits from it by collecting some
tokens before passing the knowledge on some other people.
At the training I also learnt how to write some HYPER -TEXT MARKUP LANGUAGE (HTML)
AND SOME CASCADED STYLE SHEET (CSS)
HYPER- TEXT MARKUP LANGUAGE (HTML) was written by TIM BERNERS-LEE 1993. Since
then, there have been many different versions of HTML. The most widely used version throughout
the 2000’s was HTML 4.01, which became an official standard in December 1999. Another version,
XHTML, was a rewrite of HTML as an XML language
Below is an example of an HTML code
<html>
<body>
<h1>About me </html>
</body>
</html>
An HTML file must be saved with .htm or .html extension. It is a declarative language and
not computational language( like javascript, PHP, python, java e.t.c)

CASCADED STYLE SHEET (CSS) In 1994 HAYKON WIUM LIE proposed the idea of CSS, in 1996
the first version of CSS was invented. In 1998 CSS 2 was released and work on CSS 3 began. CSS 3
was very different from the others, for instead of a being a single monolithic specification, it was
published as a set of separate documents known as modules.
1. External CSS: This is a type of css that is in a separate file document that is used as a reference
for multiple HTML pages
2. Internal CSS: This is the usage of <style> element inside the <head tag>
3. Inline CSS: This is the usage of “ style” attribute in an HTML element

CHAPTER FIVE
CHALLENGES
There were many things that I have learned during the 3 months training of my SIWES training at
University of Ibadan Consultancy Service Unit. The whole training period was very challenging,
industrious, interesting and instructive and I was able to gain new insights and more comprehensive
understanding about the real industry working and practice
The Federal Government’s effort at improving the nation’s Technical Know-How and increasing the
efficiency of middle level manpower are not restricted to the industries alone.
Efforts were made to involve institutions of higher learning based on the findings of this study, it is
evident that skills development and utilization cannot be achieved in isolation, rather the relevant
stakeholders must be committed to the course and be fully involved, which means students and
teachers form institutions of higher learning, corporate industries and commercial bodies and Federal
Government must be involved. This cooperatives machinery between industrial and institution of
higher learning will produce effectives results under the supervision and control of Industrial
Training Fund (ITF). It is recommended that; Government should devote sufficient financial
resources to all levels and aspects of education to enhances effective running of educational
programme especially SIWES. The Universities should be encourage to establish technologies
development centers to translate innovation from staff and students to goods and services.
