The Causes of Philippine – Spain Revolution and Summary of Magdiwang and Magdalo’s Faction.

The Philippine Revolution was started in 1896 and ended in the year of 1901. The revolution
had a full and unforgettable history, where fellow Filipinos fought and stood up for their love and
patriosity for our native land.

At the time that Spaniards were ruling our country, some of the friars and Spanish officials
were abusive, but then some of the Filipinos' wanted to have freedom from it. So different
revolutionary movements had been founded, some of the movements are more on writings while
other serve their own flesh and blood for the sake of freedom of our country from abusive
spaniards.

The passion about getting the freedom and independence was an essential thing to our
heroes that’s why they make everything they can do just to be free and one of them was Andres
Bonifacio, the Supreme Leader of the first revolutionary movement called K.K.K (Kataas-taasang,
Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan). This secret society serves the goal to
create the independence of the Filipinos to Spaniards that have been colonizing the country before
for 333 years. Andres founded the Katipunan, but then it was discovered on August 19, 1896,
because of betrayal of Teodoro Paterno and Father Mariano Gil. The discovery of the Katipunan
make Andres assembled the Katipuneros at the Balintawak hills.

Cry of the Pugadlawin – August 23, 1896

With Bonifacio and his troops tearing up their cedulas, the revolution got underway.
Simplicio Acabe, a brave Katipunero, was the first to die in the revolution.

After the first battle of revolution that took place at the town of San Juan del Monte on
August 30, 1896, and the series of declarations of wars of the Spanish Governor General Ramon
Blanco, there are Filipino leaders that had been captured and killed due to fighting the rights and
freedom of the fellow Filipinos to Spaniards.
Magdiwang and Magdalo’s Faction.

The Katipunan was divided into two faction the Magdiwang faction and Magdalo faction.

Emilio Aguinaldo, a military skilled strategist, tactician, and his remarkable leadership
where he leads some of the victories of battles of the Katipunan in his hometown in Cavite. His
leadership inspires other Katipunan, but despite of fighting with the Katipunan, Emilio and other
Katipunan leaders in Cavite create their own faction of Katipunan, called The Magdalo faction,
made up of wealthy and well-educated Filipinos, seeks to openly negotiate with the Spanish
authorities and take an even hand in politics. Meanwhile, the founder of the Katipunan which is
Andres Bonifacio, also created his own Katipunan faction, which is called Magdiwang faction,
this is the opposite one, where the Magdiwang is consist of low class-Filipinos fighting for the
separation of the country to Spaniards through battling.

One of the reasons it was difficult for the Katipunan to achieve independence was the rift
between its two factions, which sprang from differences in how they led their members. One side
was driven by personal ambition, while the other by political ideology.

The two leaders which is Andres and Emilio and the members of decided to create a
meeting and this is famously known as the Tejeros Convention which held at the Tejeros, Cavite
(March 22, 1897) where the two faction decided to choose one leader of Katipunan since the
revolutionary movement has to have a one leader only. The election has elected for the officers of
the Revolutionary Government and the election had first elect the two leaders of the faction for the
president which is Emilio Aguinaldo and Andres Bonifacio, Andres was elected as the president
but then, the other Katipunan’s don’t want him anymore as the leader, so they re-elect the
president position and Emilio was elected in majority as the new president of the First
Revolutionary Government. The position for Vice-President must be for Andres but they don’t
want him again until in the last position in Secretary of Interior was not given to him because
Daniel Tirona said that Andres Bonifacio is not well educated to have a position in the
Revolutionary Government, and this has affected Andres and he felt insulted. The meeting went
into chaos as Andres felt insulted on what Daniel said to people about him. Andres just left the
meeting and felt that he has been cheated in the Convention.
