WEN WEN HSIANG

Piano, Performance Grade 3

Overall result: Merit

J. F. F. Burgmüller: Innocence (No. 5 from 25 études faciles et 26/30

progressives, Op. 100)
The tempo choice was appropriate, and although the accompaniment tone needed a little
more restraint in places, the melody projected. There were some hesitations in some of the
faster figures, but the gentle and graceful character was realised.

Haydn: Andante (2nd movt from Trumpet Concerto in E flat, Hob. 26/30
VIIe:1), arr. White
The melody projected, and the tempo was positive, but there were some blemishes in
coordination, and scope for some more finesse in the shaping and dynamic shading.
However, there was some sense of poise to the approach, and the mood was captured.

Alan Bullard: Disco Baroque 25/30

This was lively, and for the most part, the pulse was even, notwithstanding some hesitations
and uneasy areas. The attack and tone warranted a bit more definition and finesse, but the
dance character of the piece was communicated.

Weber: Cradle Song 24/30

There was a general sense of phrase here, but the approach was a little mechanical, with
scope for more development in terms of legato and hand balance. However, some dynamic
shading was evident, and coordination was generally secure.

Performance as a whole 25/30

There was positive pacing, and some sense of performance commitment was evident. The
finer nuances of expression and detail needed a bit more revealing, but the individual styles
were nonetheless defined. Notwithstanding some issues in relation to coordination and
tone, the technical aspects were mostly positive.
