NUR HAIDA SYAZANA ZAINOL

Piano, Performance Grade 3

Overall result: Merit

Anon.: Minuet in G, BWV Anh. II 116 23/30

Notes and rhythms were accurate played, albeit with a slight slip at the end of the opening
section. More legato phrasing was needed, especially in the middle section, to maintain the
flow of the music, and there was scope for greater rise and fall of dynamics. The contrasts
between the left and right hand parts were effective, though the melodic echoes in the left
hand needed greater projection.

Loeschhorn: Study in F (No. 25 from 48 Etüden in fortschreitender 24/30

Ordnung, Op. 65)
This performance displayed some effective melodic shaping in the right hand, especially in
the middle section, however more legato was needed in both hands to create the cantabile
quality indicated. The light, romantic character was present but needed greater expression,
especially in the bass line. Tempo was handled flexibly, with some effective broadening out
to end the piece.

Nakada: The Song of Twilight (from Piano Pieces for Children) 25/30
The left hand chords were steadily maintained, giving a controlled pulse. The right hand
melody remained clear above, albeit with scope for even further projection. Dynamics were
controlled, and although there was room to achieve more of the pianissimo on the repeat,
they conveyed the mood effectively.

Joplin: The Entertainer, arr. Önaç 24/30

The introduction was well-handled and notes were largely in place for the remainder. The
right hand melody was clear and rhythmic, however the left hand needed to be lighter and
more supportive. A couple of small hesitations impeded the first section, and there was
some small slowing down in the second, but otherwise, the music flowed. The character of
the piece allowed for more fun to be conveyed, as the title suggests.

Performance as a whole 24/30

Delivery was largely secure, with notes and rhythms often in place, affected by only small
blips or hesitations. Interpretations needed more musical depth to convey the full expressive
quality of the pieces, though communication showed this potential was realised, at times.
Pacing and sequencing were suitable.
