Beethoven: Écossaise in G, WoO 23, arr. Czerny 23/30
This was a lively performance which was played with neat articulation. There was a lack of rhythmic control at times although the tempo choice was good. There was scope for more tonal colour but the overall shape was convincing.
Agnieszka Lasko: Tarantella (from Little Stories) 23/30
The quaver patterns were evenly articulated in the careful playing. The chosen tempo was maintained. There was scope for more light and shade within the bars as much was played at the same dynamic level. The excitement of the music was therefore not captured although note accuracy was commendable.
Stanford: Lullaby (No. 5 from Six Sketches) 23/30
The character of a peaceful lullaby was captured. The tempo choice was good and the pulse was mostly maintained. There was a tendency to rush towards the end. A broader dynamic range would have enhanced the overall performance.
Elissa Milne: Mozzie (from Easy Little Peppers) 25/30
The persistent character of the music was captured in the well chosen tempo. The accents were well pointed. There were blemishes as the performance proceeded but you kept going and ended with a suitable flourish.
Performance as a whole 23/30
The sequencing and pacing of the chosen programme showed some performance awareness and control. There was scope for more poise and stillness between the pieces allowing the various musical moods to dissipate, so creating more of a sense of occasion. The various styles were partially understood and were well communicated. Tempo choices were good. There was a lack of musical shaping and tonal colour. Much was commendable in the committed playing.
