Task 1. Reading.
Read the passage and answer the questions 1-5 (only one answer is possible).
A STORMY DEBATE
One of the worst storms ever to hit the United States was Hurricane Katrina in
August 2005.
The storm flooded 80% of the city of New Orleans. The tsunami in the Indian Ocean
in December 2004 was also a huge disaster that killed 230,000 people. But the reasons for
terrible weather conditions have led to a lot of disagreement between scientists and
meteorologists around the world.
Some experts say that in the past 100 years there haven’t been any real major changes
in the weather. They say that harsh weather is something that occurs naturally and that it
isn’t getting any worse. The reason that people think it is getting worse is due to the fact
that, nowadays, there is more information on weather events around the world in
newspapers, on the radio and on television.
There are, however, scientists who believe that global warming is affecting the
climate. They believe that greenhouse gases are responsible for making the Earth warmer.
Which theory do you agree with? The truth is, with more research and discussion into the

Task 4
Write what you and your friends do to help the environment.

Can one person save our planet from environmental disasters? Many will say absurd, but
my answer is yes.
Of course, it is almost impossible to achieve something alone, but if each of us changes our
attitude to the environment, then the impossible can be achieved. Therefore, my friends and
I have teamed up for the sake of caring for the environment.
We started using energy-saving and energy-efficient appliances, which significantly
reduced the demand for electricity and reduced the burden on the environment. This is
especially true of our mountainous region, where there is still not enough electricity.
We try to conserve water at every opportunity and prevent water pollution from domestic
wastewater. We teach children to turn off the tap, collect rainwater for irrigation, and try
not to throw rubbish into the river where we live.
We try to plant greenery in our sites in all possible ways, planting trees, flowers
Unfortunately, most people in the world do not have access to environmental information
and allow a negative impact on nature without realizing it. Accordingly, the more people
get access to environmental education and information, the less will be the burden on our
natural environment. Therefore, we update our knowledge in the field of ecology and
environmental protection every time in order to always be aware of the latest news and
trends.

Pupils also attend fitness clubs, and they are most popular in high school.

There are also activities such as computer games, walking with a pet, sleep and relaxation,
self-education, sports and work.

Physical activity in sections, circles and even in a fitness club does not replace physical
education at school and a good study.
