The reduction gear is a single-stage gear with helical toothed, case hardened and
flank ground gear wheels, built into a gearbox of cast iron.

The shafts are bedded in pressure oil lubricated bearings lined with white metal. The
output shaft is fitted with a thrust bearing (Michell - bearing) to absorb the propeller
thrust.

The hydraulic servomotor is built into the bull gear wheel and the slide valve is placed
in the servomotor piston. Pitch variation is attained by moving the slide valve via the
guide ring.

The clutch is fitted on the forward end of the pinion shaft. It is hydraulically operated
and its operating oil pressure should not drop below a pressure as indicated in "Data
sheet". This is the approximately required oil pressure in the hydraulic system.

The gearbox shall have an oil temperature as stated in "Data Sheet", by adjusting the
water flow through the oil cooler.

The safety valve is adjusted to open at the max. oil pressure stated in "Data Sheet".

Lubrication pressure on bearings to be as stated in "Data Sheet".

Check the oil level in gear housing frequently.

Safety valve.

To protect the equipment from excessive pressures, a safety valve is provided in the
supply line.

The spring (3) is adjusted to open at a servo pressure of at least 5-10 bar higher than
the maximum registered pressure during manoeuvring at full RPM. The opening
pressure can be checked by moving the servomotor piston to one of its end positions.

Adjustment of the opening-pressure is to be done by inserting or taking out, one or

more spring-discs.
