I. LEARNING
STANDARDS
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of:

1. How the different structures of the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

work together to transport oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the different
parts of the body.
2. The prevention, detection, and treatment of diseases affecting the
Circulatory and Respiratory Systems.

B. Performance The learners shall be able to: \

Standard
Conduct an information dissemination activity on effective ways of taking
care of the respiratory and circulatory systems based on data gathered from
the school or local health workers.

C. Learning The learners should be able to:

Competency
(with the LC code) Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to
transport nutrients, gases, and other molecules to and from the different
parts of the body.

D. Learning Objectives At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:
1. Describe the respiratory system
2. Identify the key parts of the respiratory system
3. Explain how the lungs work; and
4. Give the importance of each part of the respiratory system
II. CONTENT
A. Subject Matter/ Respiratory System
Topic:

B. Concepts: The respiratory system, which includes air passages, pulmonary vessels, the
lungs, and breathing muscles, aids the body in the exchange of gases between
the air and blood, and exchange. In addition to air distribution and gas
exchange, the respiratory system filters, warms, and humidifies the air you
breathe. Organs in the respiratory system also play a role in speech and the
sense of smell. Moreover, between the blood and the body’s billions of cells.
Most of the organs of the respiratory system help to distribute air, but only the
tiny, grape-like alveoli and the alveolar ducts are responsible for actual gas
exchange. Respiratory system also helps the body maintain homeostasis,or
balance among the many elements of the body’s internal environment.

ELICIT
B. Reviewing ֎ Show pictures of body systems. Afterwards, the students will be ask to give
previous lesson descriptions of the pictures to extract their prior knowledge. Chosen students
or presenting who were randomly picked will be asked to tell their answers.

C. Presenting ֎ Ask the students to cover their nose and breathe using their mouth 5 times.
examples/ instances After, ask the students this time to cover their mouth and breath.
of the new lesson
Ask the student what did they notice? Which is easier to breath, using your
nose or your mouth?

EXPLAIN
F. Developing mastery ֎ From the choices below supply the correct description of the given respiratory
organs/tract. Write the letter of your choice in the space provided.

Descriptions:
a.The upper part of the respiratory system, covered with mucus and cilia that
traps the dirt and microbes that enter with the air.
b. Voice box; made up of several pieces of cartilage that vibrates every time
we talk.
c. Windpipe; made up of rings of cartilage that are flexible for the movement
of air.
d. Two large tubes branching from the windpipe.
e. Tiny branches which are made of smooth muscle tissue in the wall.
f. Large muscular sheets that separate thoracic cavity from abdominal cavity.
g. Muscular tube that serves as passageway for both food and air.
h. Balloon like structure surrounded by network of capillaries where exchanges
of gases occur.
i. Tiny blood vessels through which gas exchange occurs.
j. The organ that functions in gas exchange.

ELABORATE

G. Finding practical ֎ Assuming that you are a doctor, a patient came to you with little sound
application of coming from here mouth which is to be not normal. Which respiratory tract is

affected do you think and why?
daily living

H. Making ֎ Respiratory system is under metabolic processing system. It means that the
generalizations and system provides raw materials like oxygen and removes waste products such
abstractions about as carbon dioxide.

EVALUATE
֎ Read the statements below. If you believe that the statement is correct
I. Evaluating learning draw a smiley face before each number. If you believe the statement is
incorrect draw a sad face.
______ 1. Lungs are made up of muscular tissue that helps get air in and out
of respiratory tract.
______ 2. Internal respiration takes place between blood and biody cell.
______ 3. When we breathe in our diaphragm contracts and ribs are apart.
______ 4. Exchange of gases takes place within the wallk of the lungs.
______ 5. Smoking damages the air sacs resulting in reduced surface area for
gas exchange.

EXTEND
