CHAPTER III.

Methodology

A. SETTING

The Metro Manila Developmental Screening Test (MMDST) was conducted in

the client's house, located at Brgy. Pinagbayanan, Laur, Nueva Ecija on September 4,

2022. The family lives in a one-story house with 2 bedrooms. The house has sufficient

lighting, and the living room is also properly and well-conditioned.

B. METHOD USED

1. Interview

the student nurses must gather information, notably about the patient's profile

(family history, maternal and prenatal history, medical history, etc.), by asking the

mother.

2. MMDST tool

The materials that were given by the student nurse and executed by the client are

represented by the test items that intersect his age.

3. Observation

This strategy was employed when the student nurse permitted the client to complete

several tasks in order to assess what he is capable of doing at his age. This is considered

the most crucial tool because the majority of the items need attentive monitoring of the

client's behavior. This strategy was also utilized to investigate the child's surroundings.
4. Record and documentation

This strategy was used to record and document all information gathered. Recording

and documenting an interview helps the student nurse to focus on the conversation itself

rather than taking notes or noting particular details.

5. Physical examination

The student nurse employed several approaches in conducting physical assessments

to determine the client's growth and if the client is developing in accordance with his

age.

C. TEST MATERIAL

The test materials that were used in the MMDST kit are the following:

a. Rubber ball 12 ½ inches in circumference

b. Pencil

D. CALCULATION OF CLIENT’S AGE

This will be the initial phase, and it will serve as the foundation for drawing the age

line and determining the test items to be administered. Confirm the client's birth date and use the

following formula to get the precise age:

 The date of the test minus the birth date equals the age of the child.

Date of test: September 4, 2022

Date of birth: February 12, 2017

MONTH DAY YEAR

Date of test 09 04 22

Date of birth 02 12 17

Total age 6 23 5

The month can be deducted, but not the day because it is 4 minus 12. Considering

August has 31 days, the 31 days equaling one month will be borrowed from the month of date of

test, bringing the total to eight months. After adding 31 days to 4, it will be 35 minus 12,

resulting to 23 days. Therefore, the client’s total age is 5 years, 6 months, and 23 days.
