OBJECTIVE
To construct a full wave rectifier and show that Alternating current is rectified into a direct
current

APPARATUS
• Connecting wires
• A plug
• Single lead wire 2m
• 3 nuts & Bolts 2 to 3cm length
•Circuit board
• A Transformer
•A capacitor
•A Resistor (1 ΚΩ)
•P-N junction diodes
• A LED
• Insulation tape, Blades, soldering wax, soldering lead, soldering iron & sand paper.
PRINCIPLE

A rectifier which rectifies both waves of the AC input

is called a full wave rectifier.
It is based upon the principle that a junction upon
o er low resistance during formed baised and high
resistance when reverse baised.
INTRODUCTION

A full wave rectifier is a device which is used to rectify all the

alternating current components in an alternating supply and make it
purely a direct current. The two alternating halves of an alternating
current are rectified in a full wave rectifier which is an advantage over
a half wave rectifier. Most electronic devices cannot withstand very
high voltage or alternating current due to its intense high power. So
these rectifiers are used in most of the electronic devices like TV’s,
Radios, Chargers,and Lightings etc
WORKING

The input AC voltage supplied to rectify is extremely high, The

AC signal is supplied by transmission lives at high voltage
because it is economical to supply AC at high voltage. The step
down transformer in rectifier circuit connects high voltage AC
into low voltage AC .
In centre tap full wave rectifier two diode are connected to the
central tapping of secondary winding of the transformer, the
anode terminals are also connected to load resistor. When the
voltage or half cycle of AC voltage is applied to the rectifier, the
top of secondary winding becomes positive while the bottom of
the secondary winding is negative with respect to the top of
the winding.
FILTER

The filter is an electronic device that converts the pulsating Direct Current
into pure Direct Current.
The filter is made up of a combination of electronic components such as
resistors, capacitors, and inductors. The property of inductor is that it allows
the DC components and blocks the AC components. The property of a
capacitor is that it allows the AC components and blocks the DC components.
In this tutorial, a center tapped full wave rectifier with a filter made up of
capacitor and resistor is explained. The filter made up of capacitor and
resistor is known as capacitor filter
MERITS

● The rectification e ciency of full power rectifier is double of that

of a half wave rectifier
● The ripple voltage is low weed of higher frequency in less
requirement.
● Higher output voltage higher output powe and higher test in cae
of a full wave rectifier.

DEMERITS

● Full wave rectifier needs more circuit elements and is coster in

comparison.
APPLICATION

• Because of this low cost compound to centre tapped

they are widely used to power supply circuit.
This can be used to detect the amplitude of modulation
ratio signal.
• Bridge rectifies can be used to supply polarised voltage
in welding .
• In daily life rectifier find use in Mobile chargers.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, a full-wave rectifier is an essential electronic circuit that e ciently converts
alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). It accomplishes this by using two diodes to allow
both halves of the AC waveform to pass through, e ectively rectifying the entire AC signal. The
key takeaways regarding a full-wave rectifier are:

1. It produces a smoother and more constant DC output compared to a half-wave rectifier, as it

rectifies both the positive and negative halves of the AC waveform.
2. Full-wave rectifiers are commonly used in power supplies for electronic devices, battery
chargers, and various applications where a steady DC voltage is required.
3. The basic components of a full-wave rectifier circuit include diodes, a center-tapped
transformer, and a load resistor. Optionally, a filtering capacitor can be used to further smooth DC
output.
4. The operation of a full-wave rectifier involves diodes conducting during di erent halves of the
AC cycle, allowing the flow of current in a unidirectional path.Overall, a full-wave rectifier is a
fundamental building block in electronics, ensuring a reliable source of direct current for a wide
range of applications in both consumer and industrial contexts.
