Solution:: Step 1: State The Hypotheses
2. A sales manager wanted to know whether there was significant difference in the
monthly sales of four representatives. Sofia is strictly on salary and small allowance,
Jhudiel is strictly on commission, Achaiah is on commission and small salary, and Uzziel
is on small commission and a salary. Five months were chosen at random. The data
represents monthly sales in units of product.
Sofia 20 24 26 30 22
Jhudiel 28 22 24 25 26
Achaiah 23 30 29 20 25
Uzziel 31 25 26 27 21
Using 0.01 level of significance, test the hypothesis that there is no difference in the
mean monthly sales of the representatives.
Solution:
Step 6: Conclusion.
Since the null hypothesis has not been rejected, we can conclude that there is no
evidence that shows significant difference in the monthly sales of all representatives.
Section Exercise 11.3
1. CSA Company is experimenting with the four (4) types of bonding agent (or glue) for
different materials. Each bonding agent is tested on eight (8) six different materials. The
adhesiveness of the bonding agent is measured, and recorded the results are as follows.
Construct the ANOVA table and test the hypothesis that there is no difference in the four
types of bonding agent at the 0.01 level of significance.
Materials Bonding Agents
W X Y Z
1 1.5 1.7 1.6 1.6
2 2.0 2.2 2.2 2.0
3 2.4 2.6 2.5 2.5
4 2.8 2.7 2.5 2.4
5 3.3 3.1 3.0 3.0
6 3.8 3.7 3.5 3.8
7 4.0 4.0 4.2 4.2
8 4.6 4.4 4.9 4.5
Solution:
Blocks:
Since the computed F-value of -141.67 is less than the F critical value of 2.49 at level
of significance of 0.05, the statistical decision is not to reject the second null hypothesis.
Step 6: Conclusion.
Treatments:
Since we fail to reject the null hypothesis, we can conclude that the is no difference
in the adhesiveness of the bonding agents.
Blocks:
Since we fail to reject the null hypothesis, we can conclude that the is no difference
among the materials used.
