Instructions: Read and understand the given questions and answer in no more than
three (3) sentences.

1. Why do you think registered nurses were hired to act as flight attendants during
the early years?
- The first company to employ female assistants was United Airlines in the late
1930s. The concept behind these stewardesses, who were all registered nurses,
was that the passengers would feel considerably safer under their care. They
had to take care of individuals who were sick on the plane.

2. What has led airline companies to hire untrained women to become flight
attendants?
- Historically, because of discriminatory gender conventions and preconceptions,
airlines employed unskilled women to work as flight attendants. They frequently
looked for young, single women in the middle of the 20th century since they were
seen to be more obedient and suited for working in customer service. Airlines
today prioritize recruiting qualified people, regardless of gender, as a result of
social and legal developments that have diminished such discriminatory practices
over time.

3. Why is the role of flight attendants critical in ensuring the safety and security of
the passengers?
- Given their thorough training in emergency protocols and ability to act quickly in
situations like fires, turbulence, or medical emergencies, flight attendants are
essential for ensuring the safety of all passengers. Additionally, they have safety
laws, making sure that during takeoff and landing, overhead compartments are
secure, seats are buckled, and seatbelts are worn. They also play a crucial
security role by keeping an eye on passenger behavior and alerting the flight
crew to any questionable action.
