ACTIVITY STEPS TECHNICAL METHODS OF APPLICATIONS / WORKS DESCRIPTION

1. Cutting off Pile

 Site supervisor has to make sure the bucket of the excavator (e.g. Hitachi EX 200) does not knock the
a) Excavation piles.

 Site supervisor has to ensure that the soil around the side of piles has to be cleared out manually by
general workers using the hoe.
b) Cut off level  Transfers the TBM provided by Main Con. to the side of each R.C. piles by using levelling instrument.

 Cutting off pile is done by a gang of concretor (i.e. 4 workers per gang) using the two concrete breakers
connect to a compressor machine. Production rate is about 16 numbers of piles cut off per day.
 Pile starter bars lapping should refer to the drawing specification.
c) Lapping  Pile starter bar lapping should refer to the drawing specification.

2. Lean Concrete  Site supervisors check the level by using levelling instrument.

 Site supervisors check the pile caps width to ensure pile caps base are fully covered by the lean
concrete before the installation of formwork.
 Grade 15 concrete shall be used and by hoisting method using 25 tons mobile crane and concrete
chute .

3. Installing Formwork  Site supervisor transfers all the gridline points from the reference points given by the licensed surveyor to
the timber reference pegs according to the construction drawing.
 Formwork shall be installed according to the transferred gridline.

 Go through Reinforced Concrete Inspection Form Checklist, Item (1) Formwork (as per attached) to
ensure compliance with QA/QC requirement. Site supervisors check the verticality of formwork by using
method of spirit level.
 Site supervisor ensure the formwork strutting and bracing are adequate in order to ovoid the leakage of the
mortar.

4. Installing Rebar  Site supervisors check the Mill certificate from the supplier the material delivery to site and cover with
canvas.
 Prefabricate of pile cap steel rebar cages and column stumps steel bar according to the construction
drawing.
 Lower down the steel cages by hoisting using mobile crane into the formwork according to the
construction drawing.

 Site supervisors ensure that the rebar are to be free from dirt and rust.

5 Concreting  Go through Reinforced Concrete Inspection Form Checklist, Item (3) Concreting (as per attached) to
ensure compliance with QA/QC requirement.
 Ready Mix Concrete shall be used according to the Specification which is approved by Consultant
Engineer.
 Site supervisors check for dispatch time to ensure concrete from the concrete truck can be placed within
45 minutes.
 Concreting is done by hoisting method using 25 tons mobile crane and concrete chute (size = 0.35 m ³) or
using the concrete pump truck.
 Site supervisor checks that concrete slump is 100mm ± 25mm for normal mix or 125mm ± 25mm for
pump mix in compliance with the approved Trial Mix design witnessed by Clerk of Works.
 Poker Vibrators to be carry out by skilled concretor to ensure proper compaction.

 Site supervisors provide sufficient lighting for concreting at night.

 Site supervisors provide canvass to cover freshly placed concrete if it rains suddenly.
6 Normal Curing  Site Supervisors ensure the exposed concrete surface should be cured after 8 hours using water.
7 Dismantling of Formwork  Dismantling of formwork should obtained approval from the consultant.

 Site supervisors check for any cracks or honeycombs of the concrete. If any, then apply for approval of
the method of rectification.

8 Backfilling  Site supervisors has to ensure that the unsuitable materials (e.g. waste timber, rubbish, cut off piles etc.)
cannot be backfilled.
 Site supervisor has to check the backfill is done to pile cap surface level by the excavator. (i.e. Hitachi EX
200)
 Site supervisor has to check the backfilling works near to the pile cap shall be done manually by
manpower using hoe.
