Background of the Study

Nowadays, shoe polish are rarely used because students don’t use leather/black shoes

because of its less fashion. Also, shoe polish are extremely expensive for students and

professionals, so the researchers come up with this study to find or to experiment a shoe polish

that is much cheaper but still effective. This will give a dramatic shine to the leather which

certainly would help polish the leather to increase its appearance.

The shoe polish is most likely an inexpensive and affordable considering it has only few

ingredients needed, also the fact that the materials needed is easy to find. Furthermore, the

ingredients of the shoe polish are organic, natural and eco-friendly. It would help many

businessmen, students, teacher and etc.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to create a shoe polish using a vegetable oil and determine its

acceptability. Specifically, it sought answer to the following problems:

1. Is vegetable oil effective to be a shoe polish?

2. Can the shoe polish with vegetable oil able to make a leather\black shoe shine?

3. Is the shoe polish out of vegetable oil cheaper than the commercial ones?

Hypothesis

1. The vegetable oil is not effective to be a shoe polish.

2. The shoe polish with vegetable oil is unable to make a leather\black shoe shine.

3. The shoe polish out of vegetable oil is not cheaper than the commercial ones.
Significance of the Study

In our country, more ways are now made to utilize common things in

order to make products easier and cheaper. In this research study, used vegetable oil is used as an

additive component in shoe polish making. This study contributes a lot for the reason that we can

find an additional for paraffin wax as main component in making shoe polish. More importantly,

Shoe Polish

According to Dr. James Lind, a British naval surgeon, he conducted clinical observations

that eventually ended in the death of over two million British sailors due to scurvy. He did it by

introducing lemon or lime juice, or the fruit where possible, into the diet of English seamen. This

solution to eliminate scurvy was a different approach from accepted medical practice at the time,

but it led to significant savings in the cost of maintaining the navy and saving the lives of sailors.

Shoe polish is waxy paste, cream, or liquid used to polish, shine, and waterproof leather

shoes to extend the footwear’s life, restore, maintain, and improve their appearance. It contains,

fats, liquids, and wax. The lipids make the leather smooth and soft, while wax protects it form

dirt and moisture. (Caldito,2015).

In study conducted in 2012, a shoe shiner made from charcoal was designed to produced

a cheaper but more effective shoe shiner than the commercial shoe shiner. The black shoe shiner

charcoal is affordable for everyone, especially students, teacher, and officer workers.
