Module No. 4
Title of the Module: Earth’s Processes

Learning Check

1. Differentiate the endogenic process from the exogenic process.

Geological occurrences above the Earth's surface is called exogenous process.
Weathering, deposition, or erosion, could be associated with it. On the other hand,
endogenous processes occur beneath the surface of the Earth. An instance would be
the shifting of tectonic plates. This involves volcanism, earthquakes, and
metamorphism.

2. In your own words, explain what is “plate tectonics.” How does it affect the
physical features of the Earth?
The dynamic movement on the Earth's crust is called the Plate Tectonics. It is the
theory that the surface of the Earth is made of large rock layers known as plates that
are continuously moving. The Earth's physical features affect greatly when huge
amounts of energy can be generated in the form of seismic activity when the Earth's
tectonic plates grind past one another thus causing earthquakes and forms chains of
volcanoes and explaining the formation of the various characteristics on Earth's
surface.

3. What is the Ring of Fire? Explain how Plate Tectonics is responsible for the
formation of this geologic feature.
The Ring of Fire is a ring of volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean resulting from
the overlapping of plates at convergent boundaries due to the subduction of oceanic
plates under lighter continental plates or the amount of tectonic plate movement in the
region. In the ring, over 450 active volcanoes are present and active.
