CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Theoretical Framework

This framework contains the educational theories connected to

parenting styles and parent-child relationship’s significance to each

other. These theories were used as the framework reference of this

work.

Several theories have been proposed to explain the significant

relationship of parent–child relationships. In the first half of the

twentieth century, research on these broad theoretical positions was

patchy, but did not inhibit strong views being advanced about the ways

that parents should approach the task of parenting.

Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory (just change this to your selected

theory, same format for the three theories)

This is one of the most influential models of parent–child

relationships, and closely associated with the ideas and findings of

Bandura (e.g. Bandura, 1977). Initially developed with an emphasis on

the acquisition of social behaviors, SCT continues to emphasize that

1
learning occurs in a social context and that much of what is learned

is gained through observation.

Conceptual Framework

This study aims to identify the significant relationship between

parenting styles and parent-child relationship of the respondents. To

achieve the goal of this study, the researchers designed a conceptual

framework seen in Figure 2.

The researchers asked permission to the barangay captain of

Barangay Sta. Salud, Calabanga, Camarines Sur. Then, an unstructured

interview was conducted to the selected household with a total of 178

parents together with their children to know the parenting style used

by the parent and the parent-child relationship of the respondents.
