Introduction:

Background of the Study:

Plants becomes one of the primary part of the eco-system, it gives and provides

numerous help to human beings in terms of food and other variety of needs. Through

the years this plants not just provides us basic needs but as well as in the field of

medicine.

Traditional medicine is the first treatment used by our ancestors, which popularly

known as babaylan or albularyo in some parts of the Philippine archipelago. Narrowing

on how this people help and heal our ancestors as they uses medicinal plants which

were the pioneers of the modern medicine we have at present.

In some parts of the Philippines, In Pangasinan province (people also called

Pangasinan) are the ninth largest Filipino ethnic group. Several ethnic groups living in

Pangasinan enriching the cultural heritage of the province. (Maganes, 2012)

Amongs the municipalities in Pangasinan, is the fast rising economical

municipality of Bayambang. Where most of the people living in the barrios with such

minimal access to advance technological medicinal treatment relays on traditional

medicine, using only the plants abundant in the area.

This study aims that as per a bayambangeno practices traditional medicinal

plants in healing process, this creates limitless of studies in the field of traditional

medicine.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. What is the level of awareness on medium-scale Scan Art among Arts and

Design students in terms of the following:

a. Lines f. Balance

b. Shapes g. Focal Point

c. Texture h. Contrast

d. Color i. Unity/Variety

e. Patterns j. Movement

2. How can medium-scale Scan Art be present showing Bayambang’s local flora

focusing on edible and medicinal plants?

RESEARCH ASSUMPTION

As this study continues to prosper with its elaborative concept of edible and

medicinal plants as the following statements to be tested which are the ability to

reconnect t edible and medicinal plants to the new aspects of medical field. Motivate

the restoration to the eyes and views of the new generation by the use of Scan Art and

ability to use this practice as a source of income.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

As this study progresses and develops its nature, it focuses on the following as

we narrow down to three (3) (Dusoc, Hermoza, Buayaen) barrio places in Bayambang,

Pangasinan, also to those Elderly people who practices traditional medicine (ages 60

above). This study only covers those three areas, not to include the whole barrios of

Bayambang and limited only to elderly people and also this study only covers three (3)

(Tagumbao, Viray, Culibangbang) edible and medicinal plants of Bayambang, not to

include the whole edible and medicinal plants of Bayambang.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

This study can help somebody, mostly the researched plants, including the

“People of Bayambang”. Aside from that, this study will help:

STUDENTS. Whose into learning of the local flora of a specific place or from

Bayambang, Pangasinan especially those students that are interested in studying plants

and doing some scientific creation;

HERBALIST. That search for such medicine that can bring him to be known by

somebody when he used this kinds of plants in his practices. He/She may grow this

kinds of plants and sell it to someone whose in need of a certain edible and medicinal

plants of Bayambang after gaining a knowledge in the research study;

DOCTORS. That in this time, many have needed to treat their ill patients they may use

these kinds of plants in their scientific study and maybe these plants can be “the cure” in

the most cases of disease that occurring right now;

ARTISTS. Whose not just doing arts but also, they can represent the value of edible

and medicinal in his way of creating an art showing different kinds of treating medicines.

Just like creating “medium-scale” scannography art, which is a form that will help them

to represent these kinds of plants. In fact, they can be more known for doing something

like that in order to give information about nature to people by just creating a

Scannography Art of edible and medicinal plants;

FUTURE RESEARCHERS. Whose also researching about the edible and medicinal

plants of Bayambang. They can use this to help them in conducting their research as

what is also the purpose of their study by using this research as a help. By using this

research also can be more powerful and justified when this research help them.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

For a better understanding of this study, the following terms are defined in the context of

this research.

Medium-Scale. As it was called “medium”, it was a model of something

(like painting) that is in medium size, neither large nor small.

Scan Art. Is the process of capturing digitized images of object for the

purpose of creating printable art using a scanner.

Local Flora. Are plants that is in presented in a particular place or region;

can only be found in a certain area; or a native plants.

Edible plants. Are plants that are safe to eat and suitable by nature for

use as a food, especially by human beings.

Medicinal plants. Are plants that is used with the intention of maintaining

health, to be administered for a specific condition, or both, whether in modern medicine

or traditional medicine.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter represents the related literature reviewed by researchers. The

basic concepts, theories, and principles as reviewed in the related fields guide the

researches to the formulation of the research problem statement. The review of related

studies helped the researches in validating concepts, theories, and principles as used in

the various studies where these are helpful in the formulation of the researcher’s

paradigm.

RELATED LITERATURE

These are several studies conducted about scannography art and its application

in creating it, equipments and methods in scannography making. Also, study about

medicinal plants.

Since the beginning of human civilization, medicinal plants have been used by

mankind for its therapeutic value. Nature has been a source of medicinal agents for

thousands of years and an impressive number of modern drugs have been isolated

from natural sources. Many of these isolations were based on the uses of the agents in

traditional medicine. The plant-based, traditional medicine systems continues to play an

essential role in health care, with about 80% of the world’s inhabitants relying mainly on

traditional medicines for their primary health care. (Owolabi et al., 2007).
SCANNOGRAPHY ART

Scannography, commonly known as scanner photography, has been around

ever since 1968. It is seen by artists as a new way to see and represent the world

around us. It takes no prior knowledge or training, only the motivation to press a button

and exercise your imagination. Scannography (also spelled scannography ), more

commonly referred to as scanner photography, is the process of capturing digitized

images of objects for the purpose of creating printable art using a flatbed "photo"

scanner with a CCD (charge-coupled device) array capturing device. Fine

art scannography differs from traditional document scanning by using atypical objects,

often three-dimensional, as well as from photography, due to the nature of the scanner's

operation. (Joseph Meehan (2006). The Magic of Digital Photography: Close-up.

Sterling Publishing Company, Inc.)

Fusing with scannography and referred to as Scanner Art or Scanner

Photography is the name for a process to create digital images using a flatbed scanner

in a way the manufacturer hasn't initially planned a process of creating art with the

scanner.

Although a scanner has a very limited capability of capturing depth of field, it is possible

to scan small three-dimensional objects like flowers. The high resolution of recent film

scanners allows very close macro photographies. Ordinary objects like a thin tomato

slice may appear in a totally different view.

Scannography has been around almost as long as scanners themselves. Many artists

have developed their very individual techniques of creating art with a scanner.
EQUIPMENT

In the article, (James A. Cotter (2003). "Joseph Scheer: Confessions of a Moth

Man”). Most commonly used in creating Scannography are forms as people's faces and

hands or everyday apparatus. Many scanners can be used for scanning but flatbed

photo scanners are most commonly used as it has both home and office functions. It

also use computer and photo editor to enhance the image and for the clearness of the

object. Using a computer and a photo editor between the scanning and the printing

process provides the artist with a greater level of control, allowing, at a minimum, the

ability to "clean" the image by removing specks and other imperfections in the capture.

TECHNIQUE

In the article, (Mike Golembewski. "The Scanner Photography Project"). The

simplest use of the scanner, which also most closely matches its use for document

capture, is as a specialized tool for macro photography. As long as the subject can be

placed on the scanner bed, the scanner is excellent for capturing very high resolution

images, within its limitations. This also has a very practical application, as it can be used

to make images of items being sold on auction sites such as eBay which are too small

to be easily photographed with consumer level digital cameras.

A common artistic use of the scanner is to capture collages of objects. The

objects are arranged by the artist on the scanner bed, and then captured. Since the

artist is working from the back of the image, it can be difficult to get the desired

arrangement. Scanning software with the ability to generate a low resolution preview
scan can help in obtaining the desired arrangement before the final, high resolution

scan is made.

Since the subjects are often placed in contact with the scanner, there is a high

potential for damage to the scanner from objects scratching or cracking the surface of

the bed, or from liquids that might seep from the subject into the interior of the scanner.

These risks can be mitigated by placing a layer of transparent protective material, such

as clear plastic film, onto the scanner bed. Another approach is to invert the scanner, so

the bed is above the subject and not quite in contact with it.

Capturing a moving subject with the scanner can be viewed as a problem, or as

an opportunity for artistic effect. As the subject moves during the scan, distortions are

caused along the axis of the scan head's movement, as it captures different periods of

the subject's movement line by line in a manner similar to slit-scan photography; these

are forms of strip photography. The artist can use this by aligning the direction of the

scan head's movement to deliberately caused the desired distortion.

RELATED STUDIES

FOREIGN STUDIES

“I began working with flatbed scanners in 1998. I used the digitogram technique

(or scannography) to create a digital herbarium and a bestiary. This work was

named: Cuaderno de Campo (Fields Notes). After that I was doing other

works but all of them based in an interpretation of Nature. Historiae

natralis, Deconstructions, Aquae, or Germination are some examples.

Huygens proclaimed the need for the artist to represent in detail what scientists

discovered with their microscopes. Wild life fascinates us just when we are in a more

technified and computerized period and at the same time, far away from natural

environment.Technology allows systematization, control, archiving and classification as

one never could have dreamed of, in a moment of scientific climax in Europe.

Order and classification is a characteristic of the scientific world and serves to

knowledge acquisition. The human beings have the necessity of bringing order to

chaos; ordering what apparently is chaotic is needed for their mental structure. Isolating

a life being from natural environment on a strange media, forces us to focus in that life

being: we are forced to look at it, to what at it, without linking it to a specific

environment. We can “dissect” or “paralyze” it to watch at it without producing any

damage. In their natural environment they are fleeting and stand aloof and we have

preconceived images of them; usually terrific and frightful. It is a way of de-contextualize

for being able of assuming them. Repeated series bring us a vision in different times. In

some cases there is a beginning and an end, in others it is cyclical. All of them

embedded in a symmetrical format: similar to them and identical to the Nature itself.

Also, serialization and repetition shelter a scientific sense, as it would be done during

the collection of samples in a laboratory.

I would like to define what a digitogram is. It is, of course, an invented word, but it

has its origin in the well-known early photographic process called the photogram. Based

on the historical tradition of the photogram, I decided to take elements of the animal and

vegetal kingdom as my starting point and place them on a device capable of registering

images digitally: a flat scanner. This device functions as the photosensitive element,

which it truly is, because its CCD works as such. The image projected on it, after the
device bounces light from the object placed on the glass, is captured and transformed

into digital information capable of being manipulated and controlled using a computer.

Thus the name of the digitogram, which in other words stands for a digital

photogram. In this way we do away with the optical and physical part of the camera and

preserve what is most substantial: the object itself in direct and intimate contact with the

surface of the sensitive paper. We therefore create a digital imprint in a unique and

direct manner.

Scanner gives us a very special image. On one side very realistic, but at the

same time, very contradictory. Apparently, it is a photographic image but then we

discover it is not a traditional photography, at least the kind of photography we are used

to. Discarding camera’s optical element give us a very particular perspective, that

resembles more the traditional photogram and the photocopy than the optical image of

the photography. Contradictions come together with elements foreign to photography,

i.e. in scanner’s technological noises. For example, “ghosts” coming from scanning an

object in movement, a non-conical perspective, a very short depth of field and a strange

lighting. The fact that the image is generated from the slow movement of the scanner

and not from a single shot and instantaneously as in a photo produces very singular

effects.” (©08-2011, Luis Castelo All rights reserved worldwide.)

LOCAL STUDIES

“Since most of the natives provided local names only of the plants being used,

plant samples and plant parts that collected during the survey were preserved as

herbarium and voucher specimens. Prior to collection of specimens, permit to collect

was secured first from the local government office of Bolinao. Scientific names were

validated in Biology Laboratory of Pangasinan State University-Lingayen Campus with

the aid of the published literatures. Some photos were taken during the field survey of”

“Bolinao is a coastal town located in the westernmost part of Pangasinan divided

into 32 barangays. The municipality includes Santiago and Dewy Islands and some

smaller ones conspicuous of which is Silaqui (the smallest inhabited). It squats on the

northwestern tip of Pangasinan province, bordered on the north and northwest, by Sea;

on the east, by Lingayen Gulf with Anda as divider; and the south by the municipality of

Bani (Bolinao Municipality Library)” (Weenalei T. Fajardo Natural Science Department,

Plants Used By Indigenous Sambal-Bolinao of Pangasinan, Philippines)

SYNTHESIS:

Therefor, in this study of Foreign and Local studies focusing on medicinal plants

and Scannography. It is resilient that the form of Scannography embodied a different

perspective of the specimen in the medium use. Most of the Scannography artist in the
international scene gives more impact to nature, as it gives a different outcome to the

physical views of the specimen.

This also includes the availability and the nature of edible and medicinal plants

present in the Philippines especially in the area of Bolinao, Pangasinan. This plants also

gives revival to the traditional medicine as shown in the Scannography. That will also

give new ideas and prospective in the art world and medicinal plants respectively.

Cotter gave a broad information about the material needed. In addition, they

focused on creating artistic images through Scannography art. Contrasting to the other

study, the usage of edible and medicinal plants that is a part of the culture will be its

focus. Similar to the previous study, the researchers will analyze and take an in-depth of

the elements and principles of arts and design applied in Scannography art. In

comparison to the other study, this study will give high regards and consideration that

this study is exclusive for future arts and design students of Bayambang.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the Research Methodology of the study which discusses

on how researchers will gather or collect datas and informations. The procedures in

collecting data and instruments that will be use in the study will also shown as well as

the methods of analysis of collected data.

Research Design

This chapter will use a Phenomenological research design that is a qualitative

research design. The design of qualitative research is probably the most flexible of the

various experimental techniques, encompassing a variety of accepted methods and

structures (Wilson & Shuttleworth, 2008). Using this will help the researchers in their

present study to have an in-depth understanding about the entire topic by exploring it

directly, for (Fansworth, 2019) the Qualitative research design is considered to be

particularly suitable for exploratory research.

Aim/Purpose

The aim of this chapter was to identify the different local flora of Bayambang to

be used in the research, the creating of Scan art, as well as to evaluate the informations

and datas collected in the followed method.

Data Gathering Instrument

Researchers will use an interview method as the instrument that best served to

collect needed datas for the present study. Interviews are an appropriate method when

there is a need to collect in-depth information on people's opinions, thoughts, feelings,

etc. Interviews help the researchers to have a further view about the subject target of

the study but with limitations as to what is only the researchers need. This will be use in

order to gain informations about the Bayambang's Local Flora to be use in the research

or creation of art from the chosen participants that will interview.

Data Gathering Procedure

Gathering the data will use a semi-structured interview instrument which

researcher as interviewers uses a predetermined questions that the respondents

answers in their own words. In this research, the interviewers will seek to people with

concerns in the Bayambang culture which is the Bayambangueños. The topic is about

the local flora of Bayambang, so the participants or the respondents will be interviewed

about the plants can only be found locally as well its functional uses in the community.

Researchers creates a topic guide ensuring that respondents will give the information in

the same topic. Open-ended questions will be asked so that respondents have freedom

to provide response they are comfortable with and also the reserchers will have an in-

depth insight, as well as it gives more datas which can be collected and include.

Process

In the article, Using Scannography to Create Images. (Kennedy (2018). The

process of Scannography is as simple as arranging objects on the scanner and

capturing the resulting image. But a few extra steps can help refine the process for

more successful images.

First, open your flatbed scanner and give it a good wipe-down with glass cleaner

and a cloth. This will reduce the amount of dust that will show up in your scanned

image. Next, arrange your objects face-down directly on the scanner glass. For a nice,

sharp image, I place a layer of glass over the top of my objects so they are flush with

the scanner bed.

The depth of field of most scanners is very limited, usually no more than half an

inch (12 mm), but the built-in light source provides excellent sharpness, color saturation,

and unique shadow effects on objects pressed close to the bed. This is why flat objects

like plants produce the most successful scannographic results.

The next step depends on whether you would like a black or white background

for your image. For a white background, simply close the scanner lid and activate the

scanner. For a black background, leave the lid of the scanner open and activate the

scanner in a dark room. Once your scanner has finished processing, observe the results

on the computer screen and make any necessary adjustments until you are happy with

the finished result.

The next step depends on whether you would like a black or white background

on the computer screen and make any necessary adjustments until you are happy with

the finished result.

The bed of the scanner is typically made of glass, and care needs to be taken

that the glass not be scratched or cracked when placing or removing items on the bed.

Since the items to be captured are often placed directly on the bed, dust and other

particles will often land on the glass, and care must be taken to keep the glass clean.

Scanners will also hold only a limited amount of weight, and items that may damage the

scanner, such a liquids or items that might scratch the glass, should be placed on

a plastic barrier to protect the bed. Alternatively, picture frame glass cut a few inches

larger than the scanner housing will protect the platen and the device from weeping

botanical specimens, paints, melting ice, burning leaves or whatever the challenge.

There are only two standard flatbed scanner sizes: "document" (slightly larger

than a sheet of letterhead size paper and "large format" approximately the size of two

sheets of paper side-by-side. Many scanners advertise two resolutions, an optical

resolution and a higher resolution that is achieved by interpolation. A higher optical

resolution is desirable, since that captures more data, while interpolation can actually

result in reduced quality. The higher the resolution (meaning the number of pixels per

inch), the larger the print size.

Flatbed scanners typically have a hinged cover that covers the bed, and reflects

light back into the scan head. This cover is usually removed or propped open when

scanning 3-D objects, to prevent damage or compression of the subject. Removal of the

cover also allows the artist to use additional light sources positioned above the bed,

which can be used to enhance the depth captured by the scanner.

Methods of Analysis

Content Analysis of all selected materials in the source information will be

performed. The relationships of the various ideas and concepts will be examined to

develop an idea to be used in this study. This will involves the analyzation of the

principles and elements of art and small statistical data on the educator's understanding

of the most important characteristics of an edible or medicinal plant.

Chapter 4

ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION OF DATA

INTRODUCTION

This chapter shows the analyzation of the findings gathered from the Grade 11 -

Creativity and Grade 12 - Amos, Arts and Design Students of Bayambang National High

School - Senior High School, Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines. Datas were

gathered through survey with the use of internet messaging tool. Introducing the Level

of Awareness of the Arts and Design Senior High School Students on Scannography Art

and other forms of art was also the content of this chapter.

OBJECTIVES

The aim of the study was to identify the Bayambang NHS-SHS Arts and Design

Students':

 level of awareness on Scannography Art and other forms of art;

 knowledge about the local flora (edible and medicinal plants) of Bayambang,

Pangasinan, Philippines;

 use of the Elements and Principles of Arts and Design and techniques when

creating an artwork;
 knowledge about the relation of technology in creating an art form;

 concept of Scannography Art as a source of income and inspiration of artistry;

and

 individual perceptions towards the Scannography, local culture of Bayambang,

Pangasinan, Philippines, and the contribution of technology on person's life.

TABLE PRESENTATIONS

The researchers created a survey containing "close-ended questions" to be

answered by the Grade 11 - Creativity and Grade 12 -Amos, Arts and Design Students

of Bayambang National High School - Senior High School, Bayambang, Pangasinan,

Philippines, where both have ten (10) respondents that will act as the whole of each

grade level. The survey were distributed anonymously to the Arts and Design students

through an internet messaging tool comprising greetings and what the survey is all

about so that the picked respondents have an idea with the survey they will have to

answer. It is in a form of Google Drive so that the gathered answers will send directly to

the researchers and that no one in the respondents will coach each other.

Since, the respondents were groups of different grade level of Arts and Design

Track, there will be two (2) tables in each questions, so that there is a separation of

datas gathered from different grade levels (Grade 11 - Creativity tables and Grade 12 -

Amos tables). In this way, researcheres will identify the difference of both grade level's

awareness about the research.

After gaining the datas, researchers statistically analyzed all of it with the use of

Microsoft Word 2016.

familiar with the Scannography Art?

Responses to question number 1; Are you familiar with the Scannography Art?

Yes 10 50

No 10 50

Total: 20 100

Out of twenty (20) respondents (10 for Grade 11 – Creativity and 10 for Grade 12

- Amos) there were only 50% or half of them answered "yes" to the survey. The another

10 respondents or another 50% answered the opposite.

Half of the respondents or specifically the Grade 12 - Amos Arts and Design

Students of Bayambang NHS - SHS are familiar with the Scannography as they studied

it when they are in their Grade 11 while the Grade 11 - Creativity are not familiar with it

because of not exploring it yet.

Due to the advancing and developing technology, many contemporary art forms

had emerged in this generation, where most of them are can be easily taught to artists
who have been seeking for more and new opportunities of creating creative

presentation of their own thoughts, feelings, and/or emotions, etc. with the use of art

and the advanced technology. In this times, with the internet and social medias,

contemporary art forms such like Scannography Art are discovered and been spread all

over the world.

Nevertheless, exploring something new are not that difficult to do because of the

advanced technology where many are becoming aware of the existence of other forms

of art, unless someone is sticking only on his form of art.

Table 2.1

Total: 20 100

The eleven (11) or 55% of twenty (20) respondents answered "yes", while the 9

out of 20 respondents or 45% answered "no" to the survey.

It can be seen that number of those who are familiar with the edible and medicinal

plants of Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines with those who are not are quite close.

The history of the local culture of Bayambang is not that very well studied in today's era,

especially the local plants of the place. Some of respondent who are familiar with the

local flora are taught by the elders they are close with, who still do traditional practices

with the edible and medicinal plants. But as the time passes by, the extinction of these

traditional practices are slowly occuring in some part of the locality. And when those

happens, new generations becomes empty-headed even in the simple names of the

plants and the originality of those.

However, the extinction of knowledge about the local culture can be avoided with

the help of this research. Showcasing the edible and medicinal plants of Bayambang

with the use of Scannography art is a big help as it can be also the source of

informations of local culture and the income for daily needs.

No 10 50

Total: 20 100

The same with question number one (1), 10 out of 20 respondents answered

"yes" and the rest are "no". Fifty percent (50%) known the local flora or the local plants

of Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, while the another 50% are not familiar with it.

Nowadays, many people, young or adult, started collecting plants with different

species from other places or countries, and with this they've been uninformed that there

are plants in their localities that are still existing. Having the lack of knowledge about the

local culture is the one of the reason why many people didn't know the importance of

local floras.

Hence, the respondents are a half-familiarized and half-not-familiarized with local

flora of Bayambang because of the new discoveries from other places that hooks their

interests, and/or it was on theirselves that they can't study these plants of their locality

because of other things that causes distraction and/or not being taught by the elders.

Table 4.1
Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 4. Do you think

Yes 20 100

No 0 0

Total: 20 100

All of the twenty (20) respondents or 100% of them answered "yes". In short, no

one has contradict the idea.

Even for some instances, not all of the Elements of Art (Line, Shape, Color,

Value, Form, Texture, and Space) can be observed in an artwork, the respondents still

believe that all of the Elements of Art should be applied in an artwork. On

Scannography art, the idea of presenting the local flora of Bayambang is interesting not

just for the artists but also to the people of community. The Elements of Art carries the

whole of an artwork, the presentation of the beauty of the art been created, so for the

better outcomes of scanned images, all of it should be applied and observed.

However, the researchers used most but not all of the Elements of Art on their

Scannography artworks so that there will be uniqueness in each of artworks to be

presented.
Table 5.1

Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 5. Do you think

that all of the Principles of Design (Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Movement,

Ten (10) respondents of Grade 11 - Creativity answered "yes" to the question as

well as what the Grade 12 - Amos' 10 respondents answered, too. A total of one

hundred percent (100%) agreed the idea.

The respondents think that all of the Principles of Design (Balance, Contrast,

Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, Rhythm, and Unity) should be observed for it was "the

standards or rules to be observed by Artists in creating works of Art; they are how to

create and organize Artwork (De Serna, 2016)". It affects the content and the message

of an artwork, on how the Elements of art was shown and how the message was

delivered to viewer.
Well, not all of the appreciator of art have enough understandings about the rules

to be observed in an artwork. This causes many, mostly just viewers, to be just amazed

on the artwork and not to give critization on it.

Therefore, the researchers seeks for the opportunity of having the Scannography

artworks the Principles of Design to be observed.

Table 6.1

Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 6. Do you think

with the Elements and Principles of Arts and Design gives the artwork an artistic

Frequency Percentage%

Yes 20 100

No 0 0

Total: 20 100

Twenty out of twenty (20/20) or 100% of the respondents answered "yes" to the

question.

The majority of respondents think that an artwork is worth it when there is full of

Elements and Principles of Arts and Design applied to it. As students artists, discovering
these factors are a big help when they start creating their own pieces of art, letting them

to produce more artistic and valuable masterpiece.

The Elements of Arts were known as the skeletons that structures the artwork

and the Principles of Design as the worn clothes expressing the thoughts, feelings,

and/or emotions, etc. or the message of the artwork. Little did many know that it is

important to consider these factors affecting the value of the artwork.

Therefore, having a visual interest on the artwork is needed to have the unity of

the Elements of Arts and a clear message of the artwork with the help of the Principles

of Design as well as to have an artistic value not just on the piece but also for the

artists.

Table 7.1

Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 7. Have you ever

tried to create an artwork presenting your local culture?

Responses to question number 7; Have you ever tried to create an artwork presenting

your local culture?

Frequency Percentage%

Yes 13 75

No 7 35

Total: 20 100
Out of 20 respondents, only 13 or 65% of the respondents asnwered "yes".

Meanwhile, the rest which is the seven (7) or 35% have answered "no" to the question.

Most respondents have tried to create an artwork presenting the local culture, just

like the purpose of this study, while the minority of the respondents never tried to

present their local culture with the use of art due to the emerging contemporary art

forms with the new artistic styles that caught their interests and wanting to try something

new, leaving behind the idea of creating art showing the culture of their own locality.

That is why, the local flora of Bayambang was chosen by the researchers to be

the presentation of its local culture with the use of Scannography Art. Another way of

showcasing the Bayambang's local culture by creating a masterpiece resembling its

importance and contributions to the province of Pangasinan and/or in the country.

In addition, Scannography art is a more creative way of presenting the local flora

of Bayambang with its advanced technology of photography that can open the viewer's

(and the artist's) eye not just in artistry but as source of income for the daily needs.

Table 8.1
Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 8. Have you ever

tried to make a small or medium scale artwork?

Responses to question number 1; Have you ever tried to make a small or medium scale

artwork?

Frequency Percentage%

Yes 15 75

No 5 35

Total: 20 100

Fifteen (15) of the respondents or 75% answered "yes", while only thirty-five

percent (35%) or 5 of the respondents answered the opposite.

Almost the respondents have tried to create artwork in a small and/or medium-

scale size. The answers to the questions are a little bit complicated, because most of

respondents only created an artwork in a small-scale size and a few only of both small

and medium-scale size. As this study are creating a series of medium-scale

Scannography art, researchers only focuses to the idea of presenting an art form in a

way it can be seen vividly even in a near part or in a distance from the artwork.

Thus, datas gathered from the respondents are guides of researchers on how

they will present the Scannography art form in a way the message/s are can be easily

understood.

the technology has a big contribution to the industry of art?

Responses to question number 9; Do you think the technology has a big contribution to

the industry of art?

Frequency Percentage%

Yes 20 100

No 0 0

Total: 20 100

All of the respondents of both grade level or 100% answered "yes" to the

question.

As the respondents are born in the developing technology, all of them agreed that

the technology has a big contribution to the art industry. The improvement of art forms

like painting, etc. are because of the new products and offers of technology to the

people. That is why, the nowadays' art or called "Contemporary Art" are born where

many have an opportunity to be involve in these new art forms or improving the usual

art form in a way everyone can still appreciate it.

In short, as the technology continuously evolving, the art industry is also

developing and improving.

Table 10.1
Responses of Grade 11 and 12 - Arts and Design to question no. 10. Do you think

that with technology, the artist/s becomes more creative in creating an artwork?

Responses to question number 10; Do you think that with technology, the artist/s

becomes more creative in creating an artwork?

Frequency Percentage%

Yes 12 60

No 8 40

Total: 20 100

Out of 20 respondents, majority of 60% or 12 respondents answered "yes" and

only 8 or 40% have answered "no".

Most of respondents think that the artist becomes more creative with the help of

technology while others had an idea of being less creative. The majority tends to think

that with technology, there are more chances of showing the artist's creativity to others.

For instance, new opportunities came with the help of technology and this enters

different ideas to the artists that if they join things together, it will result to more creativity

in the artwork. But sometimes, technology was linked by others to be used a help of not

creating own pieces — because of laziness in improving own works — but to stole

someone's property, resulting on the artist being less creative and ended up being a

criminal.
However, researchers included it in the survey so that they are aware about the

creativity they will have to give in when producing their works of Scannography art. In

addition, the creation of the medium-scale Scannohraphy arts will benefit the future

researchers and [future] artists because of the method and guidelines the researchers

used for the study.

CONCLUSION

This chapter presents the datas gathered and are statistically analyzed by the

researchers. The results shows that the Level of Awareness of the Grade 11 and 12

Arts and Design students of Bayambang NHS - SHS, Bayambang, Pangasinan, about

the Scannography art, the Local Flora of Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, and the

Elements and Principles of Arts and Design are moderate. The identification of local

floras of Bayambang, Pangasinan are slowly fading due to the intake medicines that

has been developed. However, it can pe prevented with help of presenting it again to

the people of community in an artistic way of advanced technology of photography

called Scannography art. Gathered datas were sum up by the researchers.

Chapter 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter discusses the last part of the research containing the summary of

the findings, the conclusion, and the researchers' recommendations.

SUMMARY

The research was conducted to identify the level of awareness of the student

artists of Bayambang NHS-SHS in terms of the Local Floras of Bayambang, Scan art,

and other forms of art. The researchers used a descriptive quantitative method. Datas

were gathered through survey that holds questionnaires answered by the respondents

of Grade 11 and 12 Arts and Design Students of Bayambang National High School,

S.Y. 2020-2021.

1. What is the level of awareness (low, moderate, and high) on Scannography Art and

other forms of art among arts and design students in terms of the following:

a. Line f. Form k. Movement

b. Shape g. Space l. Pattern

c. Color h. Balance m. Rhythm

d. Value i. Contrast n. Unity

e. Texture j. Emphasis
These are the terms that the researchers used in identifying the level of awareness

of the Arts and Design students of Bayambang NHS-SHS S.Y. 2020-2021. In terms of

the Elements of Art, the student artists of Bayambang are into application of all of it.

There's nothing wrong as the subject, edible and medicinal plants of Bayambang, will

show it. In the creation of Scannography, some editing were made to make it more

beautiful and appreciative to the eye of the viewer and to make it more valuable. For the

student artists, all Principles of Design should be observed in every artwork, carrying

the messages of beauty and importance of it for the preservation of the local history of

Bayambang. However, the findings showed that the level of awareness of these

students are moderate.

2. How can a Medium-scale Scannography be presented showing Bayambang's Local

Flora focusing on edible and medicinal plants?

Producing series of Scannography in a medium-scale size is a good idea as the

definition of viewing it in a nice way. Medium-scale is somehow the most used size

when creating and showing oneself's artwork. However, many students are being

discovered in the field of art because of the influences of others, and as the study's goal

is to give knowledge the locality of Bayambang, Pangasinan about preserving their local

culture the medium-scaled scanned photographies of the local floras will be first

presented to the student artists or common students of the Bayambang National High

School. The use of internet is as well another option for the widespread of it since the

development of technology have a big contribution in the industry of arts.

CONCLUSION

Creating a series of medium-scale Scan art showing Bayambang's Local Flora

focusing on Edible and Medicinal Plants is another way of preserving the local culture of

Bayambang, Pangasinan. The beauty of Scannography can show the importance of the

local plants in the history and knowledge of locality. The right application of Elements of

Art and Principles of Design will result to a more artistic value of the artwork. To enrich

the cultural background is not just the main reason of this research, but also to give the

locality, including the student artists, the knowledge of using these native plants as an

alternative of modern medicine as well as a source of income with use of technology.

Hence, this research is a big help of spreading knowledge to everyone in terms of

preservation, needs, and artistry.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The elaborative concept of creating Scannography with the native plants of

Bayambang, Pangasinan will enrich its cultural background. The locality should still

preserve the local floras by implementing programs regarding to the native plants, more

importantly the edible and medicinal plants. Schools and learning facilities of the town

should also give students a chance to discover more the local history of their

municipality. Everyone should be aware with the existence of the local floras with a help

of this research and other further studies about Bayambang, Pangasinan.
