Fire Triangle
(prepared by Yhana S. Bascao)
The teacher will begin to introduce and discuss the Fire Triangle through a Powerpoint
Presentation

The fire triangle is a fundamental concept in fire science, illustrating the three essential
elements required for a fire to occur: fuel, oxygen, and heat. This concept is essential for
understanding the basic principles of combustion and fire prevention. The interaction of
these three components creates a self-sustaining chemical reaction known as combustion.
After the teacher defines the fire triangle. The teacher will proceed and continue to discuss the
Three Elements of Fire Triangle: Heat, Fuel and Oxygen.

The three Elements of Fire Triangle:

Heat - is the energy required to raise the temperature of the fuel to a point where it
undergoes combustion. Heat initiates the fire and provides the activation energy for the
chemical reaction to occur. Ex: hot work, electrical safety and arson

Fuel - refers to any substance that can undergo combustion. In the context of the fire
triangle, fuel is the material that will burn in the presence of oxygen and heat. Ex:
flammable materials, fuel, flammable liquids

Oxygen - is a critical component of the atmosphere and serves as the oxidizing agent in
the combustion process. It combines with the fuel to sustain the chemical reaction. Ex:
oxygen and oxygen safeguards

After the discussion then the student will be asked why it is important not to lose one element
in the Fire Triangle.

The Three Es Of Fire Prevention

(prepared by Vilma Ferrer)
The teacher will recall all the topic that have been tackled and will proceed to the last topic.
The teacher will introduce the topic, the three Es of Fire Prevention through a PowerPoint
Presentation.
The Three Es Of Fire Prevention
Fire departments, fire specialists, and fire experts the world over have been using these three
principles to guide their fire safety practices.
Three Es have been adopted as fire prevention best practice by most countries around the
world including Canada.
Students will be asked about their ideas on how to effectively prevent a fire.
The teacher will then proceed to enumerate and discuss the three Es of Fire Prevention
First E – Engineering
The engineers at the 1947 National Conference on Fire Prevention were quick to point
out that tackling the issue of fires needed to start by taking a close look at how buildings
were erected. Therefore, engineers were tasked with the responsibility of coming up with
safe building designs and establishing construction standards.
The goal of the first E was to regulate how buildings were constructed by having everyone
follow the same sound engineering principles, OSHA standards and use fire-resistant
materials.
Second E – Enforcement
Why is there a need for enforcement?
Fire Codes and Building Codes are not there to make life harder for people. They exist to
simply protect everyone in the community. As such, they are not suggestions but
regulations that must be observed at all times.
Third E – Education
What does it mean to educate people about fire prevention?
Educating the public on fire prevention means giving systematic instruction and guidance
about fire issues. It consists of making people aware of how to prevent fires and how to
react in the event of a fire.
The teacher will then summarize the topic and comprehensively emphasize the importance of
fire prevention.
Causes of Fire at Home and Workplaces
(prepared by LJ Yuri S. Corpuz)

The teacher will proceed to the lesson by giving the student the information about Causes of
Fire Incidents in the Philippines
As the teacher discusses the lesson, he will then ask the students some questions regarding the
Causes of Fire Incidents in the Philippines.
The students will be asked to give some common causes of fire at home and workplaces.
The following are some common causes of fire at home and workplace.
1) Electrical Hazards
- Are a leading cause of workplace fires, often arising from faulty wiring, overloaded circuits,
or damaged electrical equipment.
2) Flammable Materials
- workplaces often contain flammable liquids, gases, or combustible materials that can fuel fire
when exposed to ignition sources.
3) Heating, Cooking, and Appliances
- Heating equipment, cooking appliances, and electrical devices are common features in many
workplaces. However, they can become fire hazards if not used and maintained properly.
4) Arson and Vandalism
- intentional acts of arson and vandalism pose a significant threat to regular fire drills, and fire
extinguisher training should be workplace safety.
5) Lack of Fire Safety Training
- insufficient fire safety training can leave employees unprepared to handle emergencies or
respond to fire incidents.
The teacher will inform the students that these tips are crucial for living and that with practice,
the students can become a knowledgeable when it comes to Fire Safety Awareness.

D. Enrichment Activity

The teacher will administer an activity entitled “Minute To Win It: Fire
Prevention Edition”.
