Good Afternoon, class!

(All students will stand up)
Good Afternoon, Madam Coronel! It’s nice to
see you again!
Let’s pray.
(The teacher will lead the prayer)

Okay class, you may now sit down. How many

are absent today?
(The class president will answer)
2 students are absent today, Ma’am.
Okay, mark them as absent and give the list to
me after class.
(The class president will answer)
Okay, Ma’am!
Discussion Proper
To properly start our class today, what have
we discussed yesterday? Yes, Aika?

Yesterday ma’am, we discussed bibliography.

That’s correct! Can you define what
bibliography is? Yes, Hazel?
Ma’am, bibliography contains an
alphabetical list of sources like books,
periodicals, and websites used by the writer
or researcher.
Very good! We discussed bibliography. We
talked about how it should be organized. Can
you give the proper organization of a
bibliography? Yes, Gabriel?
Ma’am, the author’s last name and first name
will come first. Second is the Title of the Book
with a Subtitle included. Third is the Place of
publication with the Name of Publisher and
Year of publication included.

That’s correct, Gabriel! Very good! I’m glad

you all understood our lesson yesterday.
Today, we shall continue our discussion
about writing bibliography. Here is how we
write bibliography in a chapter of a book.

(The teacher will post the visual aids)

Cruz, Lourdes. “South-East Asian Literature.”

In Language and Literature: Grade 8
Learners’ Textbook, 30-47. Quezon City:
Cruz Publishing House, Inc., 2015.

As we can see in the picture, The title of the

book comes first. Second is the subtitle of the
book. Third is the name of the author. Lastly
is the name of the publisher. We notice that
the title of the book comes first unlike our
previous examples. Is that clear to everyone?

If that’s clear to everyone,I have a tip for you.

Two or more authors should be listed in the (Everyone will answer)
order as they appear as authors, and not Yes, ma’am!
necessarily alphabetically. For sources with
more than ten authors, include only the first
seven in the bibliography followed by et al. —
a Latin phrase which means ‘and others’. So
that you would not have to include many
names in your bibliography. Do you
understand?

Let’s proceed! Here we have another type of

Print Sources and how their bibliography is
written. (Everyone will answer)
Yes, ma’am!
(The teacher will post the visual aids)

2. Periodicals.
These are magazines, scholarly journals,
newspapers, and newsletters published at
regular intervals. Publication dates are
essential when citing periodical sources.
2.1 Journal.
It is a scholarly published periodical
containing articles written by researchers,
professors, and other experts.

Please read, John!

Thank you, John! When we talk about

periodicals, these are printed sources that are
publications that are issued regularly at
specific intervals. It is typically daily, weekly, (The student will read the definitions)
monthly, or quarterly. Journal is an example
of periodicals. It contains research articles
and papers related to specific fields of study.
They are peer-reviewed and aimed at
scholars, researchers, and professionals.
Journals are often published on a regular
schedule, such as monthly, quarterly, or
annually. Is that clear to everyone?

Alright! Let’s now talk about the format of

writing a journal bibliography. When writing
a journal bibliography, the author's last and
first name comes first followed by the title of
the article. Third is the Journal Title followed
by Issue information. Here is an example.
(Everyone will answer)
(The teacher will post the visual aids) Yes, ma’am!

Martinez, Juana. “Distance Learning Amidst

COVID-19.” Journal of Studies in Philippine
Education 10, no. 2 (2019): 23-35.

We can see from the example that the

author’s name comes first, “Martinez,
Juana” followed by the title of the article
“Distance Learning amidst COVID-19”
followed by the “Journal title Journal of
Studies in Philippine Education” and ended
by the issue information “10, no. 2 (2019):
23-35.” Do you follow?

Okay! Now, we have here the second example

of a periodical, magazine.

(The teacher will post the visual aids)

2.2. Newspaper.
It is a periodical that is printed and distributed
usually daily or weekly containing news,
opinions, features, and advertisements.
Please read, Lexie! (Everyone will answer)
Yes, ma’am!
Thank you, Lexie! Is everyone familiar with
newspapers? Where do you commonly see it?

Yes, Corey?

Thank you, Corey! That’s true. newspapers

were mostly the source of information back
then aside from televisions. Here is a sample
format on writing a newspaper bibliography. (The student will read the definition)
We first write the author’s last name and first
name. Second is the title of the article. Third
is the newspaper name followed by month,
day, and year. Here is an example. (The students will raise their hands)

(The teacher will post the visual aids) Yes, ma’am. I am familiar with newspapers
because back then, my grandfather used to
Paran, Leonardo. “Filipino student bags read newspapers everyday because cell
trophy in International Quiz Bee.” Caraga phones weren’t accessible at that time.
Sinag Press, July 17, 2018.

What can you notice about the format of the

example? Yes, Cheska?

That’s correct! Very good, Cheska! How

about the others? What can you notice about
the format of the example? Yes, Angelyn?

Very good! What comes next after the title of

the article? Yes, Nica?

And what is the last element?

The last name and the first name of the author

That’s very good, Nica! Is the newspaper is written first, ma’am.
bibliography clear to everyone?

Alright! If that is clear to everyone, let’s have

our next example of periodicals. The last name and first name is followed by
the title of the article, ma’am.
(The teacher will post the visual aids)

2.3. Magazine. It is a periodical publication Ma’am, the title of the article is followed by
that contains stories, essays, pictures, and the the newspaper name.
like, usually published every week or month.
The month, day, and year will be the last
Please read, Angeline! element of the bibliography, ma’am.

Thank you, Angeline! Is everyone familiar

with magazines?
(Everyone will answer)
Yes, ma’am!
That’s nice! As we can notice, every magazine
contains pictures together with the story
about the person who is on the cover page of
the magazine and other topics that are
published. Now, let’s talk about the format of
writing a magazine bibliography. Here is the
format.

(The teacher will post the visual aids)

Author’s last name and first name. “Title of

Article”. Magazine Title, Issue Date.
(The student will read the definition)
What comes first from this format of
bibliography? Yes, Jayden?
(Everyone will answer)
Yes, ma’am!
That’s correct! The author’s last and first
name is followed by what? Yes, Amelia?

Very good! What comes next after the title of

the article? Yes, Mia?

Very good, Mia! The magazine title is

followed by? Yes, Oliver?

Excellent! Let’s have an example.

(The teacher will post the visual aids)

Alisbo, Thea. “Finding New Hobbies in Time

of Quarantine.” Young Mind Creatives, June
2020. The author’s last and first name, ma’am.

From this example, we can see the format we

talked about earlier. The last and first name
of the author comes first, followed by the title Ma’am, it is followed by the title of the
of the article, followed by magazine title, and article.
ended by the issue date. Do you have any
questions about our lesson for today?
Ma’am, the title of the article is followed by
the magazine title.
Great! That ends our lesson for today.
Prepare for an activity at the next meeting.
Goodbye class! The issue date comes last, ma’am.
(Everyone will answer)
None, ma’am!

Goodbye, Madam Coronel! Thank you for

teaching us!
