My dad undertook a career change after his manager asked him to step down from his management position to a supervisor role in a different department after 15 years with the company. He refused and quit to join a rival company that offered him a higher-paying management position. After 5 years, he quit there too due to demands on his time and now works independently from home at a consulting firm. The lesson is to value your self-worth and not stay somewhere it isn't recognized, as my dad did.

The person that I know has undertaken a career change is my dad.
He changed jobs as his
previous job in the department in which he was working was going to be removed. Thus my dad’s boss told my dad to go from a management position to a supervisor in a different department. My dad refused and told his boss why would drop the position that he worked so hard for. Which makes sense. You also have to realize that my dad devoted 15 years to the company at that point and with the rising tensions between my dad and his boss who were there before this incident. My dad quit his job and joined a rival company. This company offered my dad the management position with even more pay compared to his previous one. He worked there for 5 years but then quit as they were demanding him to stay and work more hours. So he quit the job as he wanted to spend more time with his family and not chase after the money. He is currently working at a consulting firm and works from home. The initial challenges were getting ready to work at a different place because since he worked at Lifelabs for so long he built good connections with other people and new friendships. What I learned from this conversation was to never forget your self-worth. My dad knew that he had skills and abilities that were unique yet his boss didn’t recognize them so he knew that there was no point in working for them. My dad is also very strong emotionally and at the time I didn’t even know that he quit his job he never made me feel that way. I love my dad and he is my idol I look up to!
