.Read the text carefully then do the following activities
Burning is a very common operation that we see every day at homes, companies and schools. This
chemical operation takes place only when there is oxygen (O2). To test this hypothesis we use the classical
.laboratory experiment of burning a candle in a jar or a glass
The materials you need for this experiment are: a candle, a lighter and a jar. In order to carry out
the experiment, you need to go through the following steps. First, take the candle and light it. Then, take the
.jar and put it over the candle
In few minutes you will notice that the flame goes out once the jar is placed. The question that you
?may ask is how does this happen
The answer is when the candle burns, it produces CO2 which consumes O2. Due to the absence of
Oxygen, the flame goes out. The following experiment confirms the above hypothesis that says burning takes
.place only when there is oxygen
