FINALS: Activity WEEK 10

"Exploring Belief Systems: Understanding the Practice of Religion and Belief in
Supernatural Beings"

Instructions: Answer the following questions based on the oral presentation presented in the
class.

Key Points from the PPT Report, Group 10, “The Spiritual Self”

Supernaturalism:

• Belief in a supernatural existence linked to religion.

Religion:

• Defined as attitudes, beliefs, and practices related to supernatural powers.

• Has to do with forces, gods, spirits, ghosts, or demons.
• Serves as a symbol for personal beliefs, values, and societal norms.
• Demonstrates faith and devotion.

Rituals:

• Ceremonies or behaviors that hold cultural, religious, or social significance.

• Intended to strengthen ties to one's inner self and spiritual convictions.
• Accomplish goals such as establishing a spiritual connection, symbolizing life stages,
or building community.
• Sacred and integral to established religions.
Magic:

• Not connected to a recognized religion.

• May be applied by people with different belief systems acting alone or in small
groups.

1) How do the beliefs in supernatural beings and powers shape the religious practices
within each belief system?

➢ Beliefs in the existence of other entities are the foundation and fundamental

principle of many different belief systems and act as a unifying factor among
individuals. These ideas, while distinct, unite at a junction of dedication and faith,

becoming the cornerstones of communities. Practices vary between different

communities according to their own perspectives, indicating a dynamic

interaction between spirituality and cultural identity. This effect goes beyond
personal beliefs; it encompasses the whole social structure, affecting norms,

morality, ethics, and many aspects of communal existence. As a result, the

prominence of otherworldly ideas broadens their appeal and creates an

extensive network of interconnected spiritual activities and ideals that unite

societies.

2) How did learning about different belief systems and the role of supernatural beings
and powers impact your understanding of spirituality and religion?

➢ My understanding of spirituality and religion has been greatly expanded by

exploring different belief systems and the functions of supernatural entities and

forces. This exploration has provided understanding of the diversity of beliefs

and the many approaches that people take to their spiritual selves. The depth of

insight that I have received, resulting in extends beyond surface awareness,

delights and fascinates me in equal measure. With this deeper awareness, I feel

more inclusive and value connecting with individuals from diverse faiths. My
increased comprehension enables me to comprehend the cultural and historical

context of the aforementioned concepts, which adds to a more comprehensive

understanding of spirituality and religion.

3) Do you see any connections between the beliefs and practices discussed and your
own spiritual or religious beliefs? Explain your answer.

➢ Recognizing parallels between the beliefs that have been discussed and my own

personal religious beliefs as a devout Christian has been eye-opening. I identify with
the idea of a shared faith community in my Christian community, where faith and

dedication to the Lord God are valued significantly. Even if our customs might not
exactly match those being discussed, there are some striking parallels, like the

baptismal ritual. But according to our tradition, it happens later in life—roughly

when people are 12 years old—when people are less inexperienced and more

knowledgeable. Following our set guidelines makes our sacred practices more
effective and builds a sense of community among us. This realization has broadened

my perspective on religion by demonstrating that, despite differences, followers of

different faiths are united by passionate commitment and accepted practices.
