For today’s lesson class, all of you are

expected to:

 Define compare and contrast;

 Analyze and evaluate information;
 Use Venn diagram to compare and
contrast.
Are all of you ready? If yes, say “Aye,
aye, Teacher May!”  “Aye, Aye, Teacher May!”

D. Discussion

What do compare and contrast mean?

Ronz, kindly read.

 Compare – to identify
similarities between two
objects or it means what they
have in common.
Thank you, Ronz.

We can find some signal words within

the text that compares two or more
objects easier such as:

- The same as
- Similarly
- Both
- Like
- In common
- Likewise

How about contrast, what is the meaning

of it?

Kindly read, Kendra.

 Contrast – to identify
differences. It tells what is the
difference between two
If compare has signal words, contrast objects.
also has contradicting words such as:

- However
- But
- Although
- Even tough
- On the other hand
- Whereas
- While

How do we compare and contrast?

The tool that is used to organize

similarities and differences is VENN
DIAGRAM.

VENN DIAGRAM

It is composed of two circles that

overlap. In the middle we put what is
alike between the two objects and on the
sides, we put how the two objects differ.

I have some examples for all of you to

understand what is compare and
contrast.

Examples:
1. Which is bigger; a lion or an
elephant?

 (Pupils are answering all

together)
2. Which is lesser; fourteen or
forty?
 (Pupils are answering all
together)
3. Irene is 9 years old. Rose is 11.
Who is older?

 (Pupils are answering all

together)

Irene Rose

Now class, in comparing and contrast,

aside from objects we can also do it by
reading stories or information.

Before anything else, I want all of the

class to listen and understand the story.
Understood?
 Understood, Teacher May.
Genrhued, kindly read the story.
 (Genrhued reads the passage)
Friendship Bond

For many years, Ali and Leah

have been good friends though they
differ in many ways.
Ali is a Muslim while Leah is a
Christian. Ali goes to the mosque on
Friday and Leah goes to church on
Sundays. Ali is two years older than
Leah although she is shorter than Leah.
Ali excels more in Mathematics than
Leah though Leah performs better in
Arts. Leah loves to eat food like
Adobong Manok. On the other hand, Ali
likes to eat fruits and vegetables.
For them, it does not matter how
different persons are as long as they
understand each other. This is what
makes their friendship last.

From the story about Friendship bond,

let us try to compare and contrast the
two girls.

In the white board, there are words and I

want the person whose name will be
chosen by the wheel of names will put it
inside the Venn diagram if it tells about
Leah and Ali. In the center where they
overlap, put the words inside that they
have both in common or similarities.

ANSWERS:

IV. EVALUATION

Compare and contrast the two events using the Venn Diagram. Tell the similarities
and differences of the two events. Write your answers in a paper.

Read the information below.

1. What is the event being promoted in each poster?

2-3. Where will the event be?
4-5. How much is the fee for each event
V. ASSIGNMENT

Read the short selection about roses and orchids. Complete the compare and contrast
chart below. Write your answers in your notebook.

Orchids and roses are flowers that are famous for their beauty. Both have
petals that burst with different colors and fragrant – smelling scents. Roses can
grow up to eight feet tall while orchids stay around to two to three feet tall. In
contrast to roses, orchids do best indoors. Roses require soil and full sun
exposure while orchids need careful exposure to light. Roses can also produce up
to 50 petals for each flower. However, orchids produce flat five-petaled flowers.
Different they may be, but both can be useful to people. Orchids can be used to
make perfumes and medicines. On the other hand, roses can be used as
decorations and as ingredients for a hearty salad.
