2023 GROVE CITY COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

DAILY LESSON PLAN FORMAT

(Catherine Moore and Sarah Sears/3rd Grade Math/TBD)

I. TOPIC:
Reinforce the models and concepts of fractions as numbers and their meaning.

II. OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:
A. Given the teachers have previously discussed what fractions are, they will now define
concepts and models in a flipped lesson. Given this TSWBAT understand how to
represent fractions better, which will be shown by a class accuracy of 80% or more in
their blooket game.
B. Given the teachers present a lesson in a flipped format about understanding and
manipulating fractions, TSWBAT as a class have 80% accuracy or more on the blooket
game (formative assessment).

Standards:
C.C.2.1.3.C.1 Explore and develop an understanding of fractions as numbers.
M.0.4.A-F.1.1.3 Recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

III. TEACHING PROCEDURES:

A. Introduction (8 minutes)
- Slide 1 – Introduction to the concept. Remind them that they should have watched the
flip video previously. If you have not previously watched the video, we will know
because of the activity during the video we asked you to do. We are still going to go
through the lesson today, but you will need to watch the video at a different time.
Remember that the video is graded, so if you still do not complete the activity you
will get a 0. So, if you have not watched it you need to do that as soon as possible
after class.
- Slide 2 -Have the students play the abcya game. We will play this for 6 minutes and
then see how many rounds each student was able to play.
B. Development/Guided/Independent Practice (25 minutes)
- Slide 3 – Talk about what fractions are, but do not give the students all the answers,
make them talk to you about it. Have them answer these things:
o Review Terminology
o Review what parts of a whole is
o Talk about what fractions are
- Slide 4 – Make this into an equation as well. So how many pieces are here. How
would we write this pizza as parts of a whole. What if we eat 2 of these pieces? What
is our new faction?
- Slide 5 – On your own screen shade the fractions. Then we will go through it as a
class (7 minutes)
- Slide 6 – Talk about the importance of fractions and what it looks like to divide
fractions into equal parts. Then talk about how we would use this in real life.
- Slide 7 – Have them create their own example on this slide. Then we can present
them up front and have the class solve them.
C. Closure (12 minutes)
- Check to see if there are any remaining questions that they need help with.
- Have the students open the blooket. We will play for a full 10 minutes and review the
objective.

V. ADAPTATIONS/PLAN MODIFICATIONS:
A. Adaptions: There are no adaptations due to IEPs in this class
B. Time Modifications: If we have extra time, we can play the ABCya game again or take a
little longer on the Blooket. If we are running low on time, we can take less time to discuss
fractions in the real world and in the create your own problem activity.

VI. EVALUATION:
1. Formative
Students will be assessed by asking questions during the lesson. Their ABCya game
will also serve as formative assessment. Students will be assessed through a final Blooket
game and achieve 80% accuracy or higher.
1. Summative
There is no summative assessment with this lesson plan. There would a test at the end of
the unit.
