Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp) Part 1
Objectives
1. Familiarize students with basic Op-Amp circuits such as inverting amplifier, non-inverting
amplifier, buffer amplifier and voltage comparator circuit.
2. Provide hands-on experience for students to connect and configure Op-Amp circuits.
3. Enable students to apply input voltage and observe corresponding output voltage to determine
voltage gain and phase shift.
4. Educate students about Op-Amp saturation values and their impact on circuit behavior.
Inverting Amplifier
1.2 Adjust the input voltage (𝑣𝑖 ) at 0.1 𝑉𝑃 𝑎𝑛𝑑 50𝐻𝑧 sinusoidal signal.
1.3 Connect channel one of the oscilloscope to the input signal, while connecting channel two to the
output of the Op-Amp.
1.4 Turn ON the power supply and draw the input and output waveforms on plot graph 1. Measure the
maximum peak output voltage (𝑣𝑜 ), Output frequency (𝑓𝑜 ) and phase shift between the input and
output signal (𝜃). Record your results in table 1.
1.5 Calculate the circuit voltage gain (𝐺𝑣 ) from the obtained results.
1.6 Gradually increase the amplitude of the input signal, once the output signal begins to clip, sketch the
output signal on plot graph 2 and measure the maximum peak positive (𝑣𝑠𝑎𝑡+ ) and negative (𝑣𝑠𝑎𝑡− )
saturation values.
