William's building (separate Research building) with 5 floors where major research
facilities are available in the hospital campus. One basic sciences research laboratory
is available in the college campus. In addition many departments have their own
research laboratory.

The Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory of the Division of


Gastrointestinal Sciences is located in the five storey Williams Building and
has well-equipped biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology,
immunology and pathology laboratories. The laboratories have bacterial,
viral and tissue culture facilities in addition to centrifuges, ultracentrifuges,
microscopes equipped with fluorescence and phase contrast optics, gel
documentation and imaging systems, software for image analysis, HPLC,
refrigerators, balances, pH meter, micro centrifuges, refrigerated
centrifuges, ELISA plate readers, 8 thermal cyclers, power supplies,
electrophoresis apparatus, UV transilluminator, liquid nitrogen freezer, CO2
incubators, laminar flow hoods, inverted microscopes and microscopes,
scintillation counters, spectrophotometers; ice makers, freezers
andalyophilizer. The pathology laboratory has facilities for tissue processing
and examination by light microscopy and electron microscopy (including a
new Tecnai TEM purchased in 2011), in addition to immunohistochemistry,
tissue PCR and in situ PCR, there are 4 real time PCR machines including a
Quant studio. The immunology laboratory has a BD Accuri and a
FACSAria III. There are dedicated air-conditioned freezer rooms in which -
70 C freezers (n=20) and -20 freezers (n=14) are kept. All laboratories and
the freezer room have emergency power supply connected to the hospital
generators.

CENTRALIZED ANIMAL HOUSE (CMCH) (Registration Number 88/1999/CPCSEA)

Animal House with permission to breed and maintain small laboratory animals and rabbits.
Currently the animal population includes New Zealand white rabbits, Wistar rats, Sprague
Dawley rats, Swiss Albino mice, C57 BL 6J black mice, Balb C mice.

There are 11 rooms over 2800 sq feet of floor space. Three rooms of 21.5 x 9.5 feet, 6 rooms of
27.5 x 9.5 feet, feed room and store of 27.5 x 9.5 feet and corridor of 62 x 6 feet.
