Problem No.1:

Given Data:

Two large parallel plate.

Temperature of plate 1 = 𝑇1 = 500 K
Emittance of plate 1 = 𝜖1 = 0.45
Temperature of plate 2 = 𝑇2 = 300 k
Emittance of plate 2 = 𝜖2 = 0.2

Required:
1. Energy transfer per unit Area by radiation
2. Radiation heat transfer coefficient.

𝑻𝟏 = 𝟓𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝒌, 𝜺𝟏 = 𝟎. 𝟒𝟓

𝑻𝟐 = 𝟑𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝒌 𝜺𝟐 = 𝟎 ⋅ 𝟐

𝝈 = 𝟓. 𝟔𝟕𝟖 ∗ 𝟏𝟎−𝟖

Solution:

For radiation between two infinite parallel plates:

The areas 𝐴1 and 𝐴2 are equal and the view factor 𝐹12 is unity:

𝑄 𝜎(𝑇24 − 𝑇14 )
=
𝐴 1 1
𝜀1 + 𝜀2 − 1

= = 496.4194286 2 ≫≫ 𝑅𝑒𝑞. 1
𝐴 1 1 𝑚
+ 0.2 − 1
0.45

∴ 𝑞1−2 = 495.72w/m2

∴ Energy transfer per unit area = 𝑞1−2 = 495.72w/m2

The radiation heat transfer coefficient:

𝜎 (𝑇14 − 𝑇24 )
𝑞1−2 = = hrad (𝑇1 − 𝑇2 )

𝜖1 + 𝜖2 − 1
𝜎 (𝑇12 + 𝑇22 )(𝑇12 − 𝑇22 )

ℎ𝑟𝑎𝑑 = 2.4786 𝜔/𝑚2 𝑘

∴ Radiation heat transfer coefficient = ℎ𝑟𝑎𝑑 = ℎ𝑟𝑎𝑑 = 2.4786 𝜔/𝑚2 𝑘 >> 𝑅𝑒𝑞. 2

Problem No.2:

Given:

The plate is facing up at 50∘ C when exposed to an ambient temperature of 10∘ C.

The plate emittance is 0.88
The dew point is 3∘ 𝑐
wind heat transfer coefficient is 25 𝜔/m2 𝐶.

W
𝑇𝑝 = 50∘ C, 𝑇𝑎𝑚𝑏 = 10∘ C, ℎ𝜔𝑖𝑛𝑑 = 25 m2 ∘ C, 𝑇𝑑𝑝 = 3∘ 𝐶, 𝜀 = 0.88, Midnight time

• Relation between effective sky temperature to the dew point temperature, dry bulb
temperature, and hour from midnight t >>> Correlation 3.9.2
2 1/4
𝑇𝑠 = 𝑇𝑎 [0.711 + 0.0056𝑇𝑑𝑝 + 0.000073𝑇𝑑𝑝 + 0.013cos (15𝑡)]

where 𝑇𝑠 and 𝑇𝑎 are in degrees Kelvin and 𝑇𝑑𝑝 is the dew point temperature in degrees Celsius.

∴ 𝑇𝑆 = (10 + 273)[0.711 + 0.0056(3) + 0.000073(3)2 + 0.013]1/4

∴ 𝑇𝑆 = 262.6079854 °K

Equivalent Radiation Heat transfer Coefficient:

∴ 𝑄 = ℎ𝑅 𝐴(𝑇𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒 − 𝑇𝑎𝑚𝑏 ) = 𝜀𝜎𝐴(𝑇𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒 − 𝑇𝑠𝑘𝑦 )
4 4)
(323) − (262.61)
∴ ℎ𝑅 = × (0.88)(5.67 × 10−8 )
(323 − 283)

∴ ℎ𝑅 = 7.645 W/m2 𝐾
