he Control Tab are pasted into the train instructions tabs, which identifies car movements for each of the switch jobs. The idea is to print o
bined switch list and instruction packet. Two key Excel instructions are needed to run this tool: "click and drag" and "copy and Paste". Cl
es the data from one cell to another, simulating the movement of a car from one location to the next. Copy and Paste makes a copy of th
cell(s) and pastes it into a second cell(s). For example, you will want to copy an industry name from your list of industries, and paste it into
You want the original list of industries to remain unmodified, so you use the copy and paste process. On the other hand, the car moves f
e, so click & drag simulates this process.
"Click and drag" the cars from staging or the extra car bin (off line storage) into the "Set Off" car cells on the BUILT SWITCH LIS
the Control Tab. This builds the outbound train. Now "Copy & Paste" the destination for each car in the switch list from the li
industries. I recommend clicking & dragging the car furthest to the left, since it has been at the industry the longest.
"Click & Drag" cars from the "current car position" into the "Pick up" part of the BUILD SWITCH LIST. Be sure to "Copy and Pas
current location name so the crew will know where to find the car on the layout.
Highlight the cars and locations. then right click on Copy . Then paste the list into the specific train tab you want to create. Y
determine which of those trains you have built, paste into that switch list, and print that tab. Print only that one tab. The sw
be combined with specific instructions for that switch job . This allows the guest crew to fold their print out down the center
switch list on one side and instructions and "Old Hat" tips on the other side.
This is administrative. You now need to re-order the Control Tab to simulate the completion of the previous switch moves
creating another switch list.
On each industry line where a pick up is planed, click and drag all of the industry cars to the left, filling the empty cells for that
from left to right. The idea is to manage the cars as "First In, First Out" (FIFO) manner.
Move the cars (Click and Drag) from the set-out list to each destination industry. Drag the cars to the fist open cell to the righ
already spotted there. This moves the cars off the switch list and into the industry.
Move the cars in the Pick-Up section to one of the lines in the staging yard area of the Control Tab. Any line will do. For exam
train is first out, it will probably be first in, so the inbound track is most logical. I recommend shading these cars until the trai
arrives, preventing the double use of those cars in the next train out.
The BUILD SWITCH LIST area should now be empty. Repeat steps 1-4 to build the next train out. However, you will need to ch
different train (different tab) to print out. Also, don't put cars into this train that have not yet arrived in the staging yard. Tho
still in transit, and should be shaded a different color to help you remember not to use them yet (See step 4c).

Old Hat: Check your switch list against the actual cars
in your train before departing.
Old Hat Trick: When you are done with Delaware Ave,
use the Subway to run around your train, before getting
to 17th Street. You can't be sure there is an open track
in the 17th Street Yard to do the run around there.
