EXERCISE 9: Rheumatoid Factor

Student’s Name CASADO, Justin Rene P. Sec MT3A Group 3 Date 03/08/21

PURPOSE:
To detect the presence of rheumatoid factor in the serum sample.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Draw the results of the Test and the Controls.
2. Read and interpret the result of the serum sample assigned to the group.
3. Fill up the tables provided.

RESULT AND OBSERVATION:

Reading: (-) for agglutination

Interpretation: RF is absent or is <80 UI/mL

Table A: Slide Test for Rheumatoid Factor

What serves as the agglutinin? RF IgM from patient’s serum
What serves as the agglutinogen? Human IgG absorbed to latex particle
Give the time of incubation and the speed 2 minutes, 80-100 RPM
of the mechanical rotator.
Give the temperature of incubation. RT

Which test is used to detect RF in synovial fluid? Sensitized Sheep Erythrocytes Agglutination
Test
CONCLUSION (Please limit your conclusions to at most 4 sentences)

In our country, Rheumatoid Arthritis is a prevalent illness that mostly affects the elderly population, but can also be
present in the younger counterparts as well. The use of our rheumatoid factor (RF) and its corresponding tests is one of
the procedures that aid in the diagnosis of RA, along with the clinical picture of the patient, X-ray, and other lab findings.
In this exercise, the different tests for the RF were discussed, namely the Sensitized Sheep Erythrocytes Agglutination
Test and the Latex Agglutination Test and both of their advantages and disadvantages were portrayed. Lastly, we were
shown how to read and interpret our results, to which a positive result was indicated by agglutination, and a negative
result showing a uniformly milky suspension on the reaction slides.
