that a strong upward draught exists, to avoid
chances of any fume entering the laboratory.

direction of exit travel.
2. Ventilation
a. Whether the laboratory is cool, dry and well Y
ventilated.
b. Exhaust ports for bottom ventilation are provided Y

above the roof at a location, height and a
velocity sufficient to prevent re-entry of
hazardous chemical vapours

3. Emergency exits
a. Two easily assessable exits are available and Y
are maintained free of obstructions.

c. All lights including exit lights are in working Y
condition.
d. Lights/emergency lights are available on NA Lab is at Ground Floor
stairways.
e. Entrances to lab units, lab work areas, storage Y

warning/ caution signs.
4. Storage and Handling
a. Storage space is of full height, to enable safe Y
and easy access from the standing position.
Storage of hazardous chemical should be need
based and limited to bare minimum for carrying
out the lab work.
b. All containers including temporary, secondary Y
and hazardous containers are properly labeled
and in good condition.
c. Containers are kept tightly closed and stored Y
properly. Leaky containers should be removed
from storage area.
d MSDS of all chemicals being used in lab are Y
available.
e. Chemicals are segregated category wise such Y
as flammable hydrocarbons, toxic, reactive
chemical and reagents, glassware
f. Each bottle / container is properly labeled for its Y
clear identification with name of chemical, the
concentration and hazard colour code in line
with OISD - 114
g Glassware is to be inspected before use. Y
Broken, chipped or badly scratch glassware is to
be discarded.
h In storeroom where flammable samples are Y
stored bottom exhaust is provided for release of
flammable vapours with double layer of wire
mesh.
i Metallic safety carriers are being used for NA
transporting glass or plastic containers having
capacity of 2 litres or more.
j. Coolant/ refrigerant liquid if used, in lab NA No Coolant
equipment should be well covered (no free Refrigeration
ventilation allowed).

5. Handling of Gas Cylinders
a. Compress gas cylinders are chained or strapped Y Outside the lab in well
and placed outside the lab in well-ventilated ventilated cage
shed.
b. Associated gas pipeline and valves are metallic Y
and suitably designed to withstand the gas
pressure.
c. Isolation valves are provided on the gas pipeline Y
inside lab at the point of supply and use
d. Associated gas pipeline should be neatly fixed Y
to wall and properly tagged for identification.
e. All cylinders are having valid hydro test Y By Manufacturer
certificate.
f. Cylinders are shifted with the help of metallic Y
trolley only. Rolling of cylinders is not done.
g. Empty cylinders are properly tagged and kept Y Identified
separately from the filled one.
6. Electrical Safety
a. System and equipment earthing should be as Y
per IS:3043.
b. ELCB of 100 mA rating provided in main circuit. Y
c. Plugs having multiple outlet are not used. Y
Industrial type closed / tight metal clad fittings
for plug and socket assembly are used.
d. Electrically heated constant temperature baths Y
are equipped with over temperature shut off
switches in addition to normal temperature
controls.
e. Electrical receptacles, switches and controls are Y
located so as not to be subject to liquid spills.
f. All electrical wiring for the lab is through metal Y
conduit or armoured cable.
g. All electrical switches are wall mounted type Y
and above the height of working bench with
industrial type metal socket.
h. All electrical repairs, wiring jobs are performed Y
under authorized electrical supervision in line
with OISD – 137.
i. The electrical line clearance procedure as per
OISD – 137 are followed.
j. Correct rated electrical fuses are used. Y
k. Refrigerators are defrosted regularly. Suitable Y
modification of refrigerators are made by
bringing the thermostat outside the refrigerator
and removing the bulb from refrigerator.

7. Fire Prevention
a. All hot work is performed under valid work Y
system as per OISD – 105. No Smoking Board
to be displayed in all rooms.
b. Storage area for flammable material and Y .
compressed gases should be away from the
burners, induction heaters, ovens, furnaces and
other heat producing equipment.
c. Bath handling flammable liquids or combustible Y
liquids heated to their flash point are placed in
fume hood and vented to a safe location.
d. An alarm bell is provided in security and shift Y
officer’s room connected to emergency call
button in Laboratory. Hand siren is available in
Lab.
e. Electrical siren, if provided, is tested periodically NA
for operation, performance and audibility in the
specified range.
f. Following PPE are available and are being used Y
appropriately by personnel working in the lab

2. Apron ( cotton, rubber etc. )
3. Gloves ( cotton, rubber etc. )

g. Following safety equipments are available and With Terminal


all personnel in the lab are aware of using the
same.

equipment are available (1 for each 15 M2 or 1
for each room minimum).

extinguishers/ fire fighting system.
8. Disposal of samples and chemicals
a. Disposal of remaining portion of samples from Y
the sample container to be frequently done in
separate metal cans (not more than 20 ltrs.
Capacity) having proper lid and the same is
disposed off regularly. The sample is not
disposed off in the open sink. Separate metal
cans have been provided for DP and NDP
products.

b. Non hazardous waste like broken glassware, Y
paper, empty containers, can be safely
disposed into garbage after ensuring that they
are free from hazardous, toxic, flammable or
reactive chemicals.
c. Remaining quantity of sample from hot Y
equipment not to be disposed off directly in to
the 20 ltr. metal container kept for collection of
waste oil.
9. General
a. Good House keeping practices is being Y
followed.
b. Work in isolation is not being done in lab; Y
second person is always within call.
c First aid and first aider information is displayed Y
in the lab.
d. Use of Mobile phone is not being used in the Y
laboratory.
e Safety information and emergency procedures
prominently displayed. Emergency telephone
numbers as follows displayed.
