Doll House

I am not really a fan of Filipino movies. Most of the movies that I’ve watched are too
cliché or a few actors are terrible at portraying their characters which made me hate watching
Filipino movies. But there’s this movie that I considered as ‘the only exception.’ Doll House is a
Filipino move that was released in the year 2022. The movie was based on a true story about
Faye Lorenzo and her dad Rustin that was portrayed by Baron Geisler. The movie portrayed the
story of a rock band lead singer who attempts to rekindle his relationship with his long-lost
daughter. This was the first Filipino movie that I’ve watch that is not like any other Filipino
movies that I’ve watched before. Mainly because it is not your typical love story between high
schoolers or about couples who try so hard to fix their relationship but still leave each other in
the end but it is about a memory, realizations, and about life.

What makes the movie so exceptional for me is because of Baron. Baron has a long
history of drug and alcohol addiction which made his career in show business go downhill.
Baron’s experiences in life made him connect with the character deeply. Thus, art imitates life.
Just like Baron, the character that he was portrayed also made terrible mistakes in life that he
genuinely regrets. Even though the movie circulated on a few actors only, emotions and
connections are perfectly depicted by the movie and how Rustin’s redemption on trying to
build back the relationship with his daughter are passionately felt.

The movie’s cinematography is not just like any other. Everything was felt. It does not
feel like a movie. But a memory. It is like a roller coaster ride of emotions as you watch the
movie. Just like memories, there are times when you’ll laugh, get annoyed, but there are also
times when you’ll be sad. And that is the magic of the movie, even though you are just
watching, you’ll feel connected to everything. But just like life, not everything will go on your
way. Even though Baron’s character wanted things to change, fate is too playful for him. The
damage that he did to his daughter has been done and was irreparable. I also love how the
movie’s symbolism of doll house was made throughout the film. Which devised the movie on a
very emotional ending. Overall, the movie was a very emotional piece for me and encompasses
several lessons in life that most people would relate to.
