Irvington Hosts 77th Annual Halloween Festival
Indianapolis, Indiana (Irvington Neighborhood) - October 9, 2023

The Irvington Community Council has announced the annual schedule of events for their 77th
Annual Halloween Festival, with traditional ways the neighborhood celebrates Halloween along
with new events happening this year.

Beginning October 21, Irvington, a historic neighborhood of Indianapolis, plans to begin their
long-running history of Halloween festivities with this year being the 77th year of their
Halloween festival, which will lead into Halloween. The festival has a variety of events
including the traditional Street Fair, Frightseeing, Masquerade Party, which includes charity
events. Other traditions being carried on this year are the poster contest along with the shop
window paintings.

Some new and newer traditions that are being observed are the movie night, the spooky organ
concert and the Wellness Fair, which will help ensure safety throughout the next week of large
gatherings by giving flu vaccines, hosting a blood drive, and completing screenings for other
illnesses and conditions. All of this helps to ensure our communal history within Indianapolis,
celebrate Halloween, which has been a long-standing part of Irvington’s history, including our
town name being from the author of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow along with bringing people
together from all over the city.

Sue Beecher, the president of The Irvington Community Council, in a recent interview about the
Halloween festival, said this, “We would not be able to host this year’s celebration without
gracious sponsors including: Ace Hardware, CSL Plasma and Jockamo Pizza just to name a few.
We plan to only further develop our programming in the future for our festivals and community
events outside of the Halloween festival as well.”
