A. Introduction (background)
The adventures of jerry muskrat tells the story about jerry, a young muskrat, and
his adventures in escaping the farmer and his son, and saving the laughing brook
and his home at the smiling pool from drying up. The story also features
grandfather frog, joe otter, billy mink, and paddy the beaver. This book is written
by T.W Burgess, an old writer from America who was wrote a lot of novel and
scientific book. He was born on January 17th 1874 and was died on June 5th 1965.
He had has achieved lot of honorary of literature awards.

B. Theory
Intrinsic elements are contained in all of written work, arts, films and so on. There
are several classification of intrinsic elements, such as:
1. Theme
Theme is a main part that is being discussed in a piece of writing, movies and
the other arts. For example, a constant theme of a movie is religion. That
means, all of plot in the movie have connection with religion.
2. Plot
A plot is the sequence of events within a story: a description of what happens
and why it happens. A story is a comprehensive narrative. For example: the
king died and then the queen died .
3. Characterization
This element involves the creation and development of characters within a
story. It includes the traits, personalities and the resolution or conclusion of
the story.
4. Setting
The setting means the time and place at which the narrative happens. It
provides the backdrop for the narrative and can significantly influence the
mood and atmosphere of the story.
5. Point of view
This is a kind of perspective though which the narrative story is narrated. It
can be first person (tell by the character in the story), third-person limited
(narrated by an external observer with insight into one character’s thoughts),
or third-person omniscient (narrated by an all-knowing external observer).
6. Style
It includes the writer’s unique techniques of writing and word choices.
7. Mandate
Mandate include the insight or the message that the writer want to share with
the reader
What is an audiobook:
An audiobook is a recorder version of a book, typically in spoken word format,
that allows people to listen to the content of a book rather than read it visually.
This method is provide an alternative way to enjoy the content of books, making
them accessible to people who may have difficulty reading visually due to factors
like impairment, dyslexia or other disabilities.

C. Result
1. Theme
The theme that uses in this audiobook is friendship. It seems when all of the
characters take care each other. Beside that, this story include the important of
nature and how to work together.
2. Plot
This story uses a progressive plot which is shown in the multi-level conflict
and challenges that must be faced by the main character, jerry. This is shown
by the various problems they encounter, such as scattered traps, flooding and
missions to find a new house. So, this story uses a forward plot.
3. Characterization
In this story, the writer uses animals as the character, but he added each name
for each animals. All of the character also has their own characteristics. Here
are all of the characters:
 Jerry Muskrat, the main character he is brave and helpful
 The Farmer’s boy, the antagonist character. He is rude by spread the
traps in the laughing brook and smiling pool
 Grandfather frog, the additional character. He is wise.
 Joe Otter, jerry’s friend.
 Billy Mink
4. Setting
 setting of place
All of the things that happen in this story is located in laughing brook
and the smiling pool. This is the place that all of the animals live.
 Setting of time
The setting of time in this story is at the afternoon, at the night, and the
morning. It seems when jerry take a walk in the afternoon and get
trapped, and in the evening, he told Mrs. muskrat what happen to him.
And in the morning, they held a big convention in the middle of
laughing brook.
 Setting of atmosphere.
In the story, there are several atmosphere that include. Such as:
i. Confusing.
All of animals confuse because they do not know to who they
could ask for solutions
ii. Happy
At the end, they feel happy when they heard that grandfather
frog can solve their problems
iii. Worried
The grandfather frog realize that there are something unusual
in the smiling pool. He worried because he think maybe it is
can harm all of the animals.
5. Point of view
This story use third-person omniscient (narrated by an all-knowing external
observer). It shown by the sentences which explained the situations, but the
writer himself is not there.
6. Style
The writer using a lot of figurative sentences, idioms that makes the story
sound interesting to hear.
7. Mandate
There are so many moral message that can take from the story. Such as:
Mutual help, respect each other, listen to each other, and willing to sacrifice
for the safety of others.
