Input Voltage @ Inverter = 60V DC

Input Voltage @ Resonant Circuit = 58.74V
RMS Output Load Voltage = 42.06V
Resonant Current = 0.424A

5.

We can calculate the resonant frequency and compare it to the switching frequency set (280Hz)
to determine the mode of operation for our inverter.

𝐶𝑎𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 = 5 𝜇𝐹
𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 = 50 𝑚𝐻

1 1
𝑓0 = = = 𝟑𝟏𝟖 𝑯𝒛
2𝜋√𝐿𝐶 2𝜋√(50 ∗ 10−3 )(5 ∗ 10−6)

𝒇𝒔
∴ 𝒇𝒓 = < 𝟏
𝒇𝟎

Since our resonant frequency is greater than the switching frequency entered in LVDAC software
and the frequency ratio is less than 1, we can suggest that it is in below resonance mode.
Additionally, we can suggest that when the inverter is in this mode of operation, it is capacitive
and produces a leading current.

Oscilloscope for 80V input voltage, 350Hz switching frequency, and RMS load voltage of 42.69V

After increasing input DC voltage to 80V, adjusting the frequency from 280Hz to 350Hz helped
us reach the RMS output load voltage value we obtained when input DC voltage was to 60V.

We observed that when the input voltage was increased to 80V DC, our power efficiency
decreased from 85.27% to 81.37%. From the previous steps, we know that when the switching
frequency is less than the resonant circuit frequency, we operate at a below resonance mode
and the circuit is capacitive. However, when we increase the switching frequency and make it
greater than the resonant circuit frequency, we are operating at above resonance mode and the
circuit is inductive. When the circuit is more inductive, we know that more reactive power is
produced which decrease the amount of real power produced. When this happens, the
efficiency of the power goes down and hence, we can see that in this experiment when we set
the input DC voltage to 60V versus 80V.
