8th December 1988 – The miracle continues

Many times the works of God are started and proceed with pain and tears. The greater the work, the
greater the persecution. This is a mystery. Why does God allow such evil to happen? One reason is
that God wants to show us that it is His work not ours. This keeps us humble. If God is not in the work,
the devil gets in, to steal, to destroy and to kill. The devil is against life and against all that is holy.
Helpers in life you may experience awful blows, be not afraid, keep going.

As from the start we had quite a number of robberies which caused us a lot of heart ache. When I was
removed from Peru we lost financial help from an institution from Switzerland. This was an attempt
to destroy the orphanage and me. But … God always came to our aid. Another continual miracle is
that the orphanage monthly expenses that we have to pay, which amount to around $5,000 (water &
electricity, telephone, employees, nappies, medicine, qualified teachers, and the like) have through a
miracle always been met. Just to mention one, at a point in time the orphanage had no funds at all.
One of the Helpers from Melbourne gave the orphanage a donation of $20,000. Helpers, we bear
witness. Strength will be given to us from God.

The orphanage passed through heart breaking trials, like when they sent the children out of the
orphanage. And here is another miracle! At the time a priest from San Diego California, heard about
this through Mary Luz Barreda’s sister, Ruth – a nun working in San Diego. A benefactor from the same
state, donated $100,000 and bought a parcel of land. The priest together with seven volunteers went
to Peru and on this land of the orphanage managed to build a small house. The house was ready on
the day when the children had to abandon their abode. Now, with your help the orphanage continues
to expand to its present state. Today it accommodates two blocks, one for boys and another for girls,
a clinic, some classes, a physiotherapy hall, and a recreational area. The miracle continues ….

I would like to mention another particular miracle! We had young children, and we had no milk for
them. While looking at each other not knowing what to do there was knock on the door and a man
came with a sack of milk powder and gave it to us. I remember on that day, providence showered us
with more and more miracles … a lot of donations of vegetables, potatoes etc. The children were
saved. Another miracle is the fact that these disabled children die in loving and caring hands!

Pope Francis says: It is when we learn to cry with those who suffer, is when we start to understand
them and love them. Jesus cried on various occasions. If we do not learn to cry with such children we
are not good Christians.

As I have mentioned in previous articles, the 8th December, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, is
also the foundation date of the home. Therefore, I urge you that on this day you pray more with intent
for the children and the staff. Meanwhile, this year the owner of the field should visit the home to
discuss the possibility of selling another parcel of land adjacent to the orphanage. Please pray that the
deal will go through and the orphanage will be able to purchase the land. The orphanage has managed
to put up part of the initial sum requested, but they are still short of some $50,000. Pray for yet
another miracle.
