Along the lines of the consistent and clear approach drawn
by the Hashemites upon the foundation of the Jordanian
state, King Abdullah II demonstrated that he was a truthful
bearer of the Nation’s Message when addressing the Doha
Summit. Not only was his speech straightforward, clear
and insightful, but it also showed awareness of current
developments putting record straight in an (faithful)
endeavor to face up the challenges and changes that pose a
threat to the national security on the basis of “building a
unified (Pan-Arab) strategic vision to address current and
prospective developments and our ability to be effective
players on the world arena.”
Isaac Newton
The chief figure of the scientific revolution of the
seventeenth century was Sir Isaac Newton. He was a
physicist and mathematician who laid the foundations of
calculus, extended the understanding of color and light,
studied the mechanics of planetary motion, and discovered
the law of gravitation.
Isaac Newton’s supreme scientific work was his system of
universal gravitation. He went to his farm in 1665 to avoid
the plague, and during this time he worked out the law of
gravity and its consequences for the solar system. This law
arose from Newton’s question: what keeps the moon in its
regular path around the Earth? He concluded that only their
attraction for each other could account for it. He later
remarked to a friend that he got the idea while watching an
apple fall from a tree in his orchard.
Every particle of matter in the universe, he wrote, attracts
every other particle with a force varying in inverse
proportion to the square of the distance between them, and
directly proportional to the product of their masses.

Woman and the notion of deepening gender related

differences
Woman’s World Day was officially announced in 1908 in
Copenhagen (Denmark). Since then, women have been
calling for equality with men with regards to wages and
ownership and voting rights. Today, these calls are heard in
Islamic societies. As a matter of fact, however, Islam had
indeed safeguarded the rights of women, including the
aforementioned, more than fourteen centuries ago.
It is wonderful for a human being to acquire his/her
legitimate rights and to practise them freely and
spontaneously in everyday life. The bad thing however is to
make woman engaged with man in a struggle for no good
reason.
Our glorious Islam has ever underlined the principle of
equality between man and woman but without overlooking
those basic differences that exist between man and woman.
Such differences do not undermine or hail the roles of either
of them. Rather, these differences qualify each of them to
carry out their own roles and responsibilities effectively.
Many studies therefore arrived at logical findings showing
the differences between man and woman in their body,
psychology, style of thinking and handling of situations and
problems that they face. Hence appears that it is unwise to
call for absolute equality between man and woman or else
this would have negative consequences and could cause
harm and damage that would affect no other than the
woman herself.

‫ من ذلك تبين‬، ‫والنفسية وفي أسلوب التفكير وطريقة التعامل مع المواقف والمشكالت‬
‫أن المنادة بالمساواة على اإلطالق بين الجنسين نوع من الغباء الذي لن يتحمل تبعاته‬
‫ وأضراره ومآزقه سوى المرأة‬.
‫الغرب يدعي ظلم المرأة واضطهادها في المجتمعات العربية وحمالت تحريرها تستعر‬
‫ فهل وصلت بنا‬، ‫وتشتد في اآلونة األخيرة وقد صدق كثيرون تلك الدعاية المغرضة‬
‫حسن النوايا إلى أن نتوقع أن يعرفنا الغرب أكثر مما نعرف أنفسنا؟!!! أم جعلتنا ثقتنا‬
‫!!!العمياء بهم نؤمن على كل ما يدعوننا إليه؟‬

It is claimed in the Western hemisphere that women are

oppressed in the Arab societies. Such an accusation has
recently and increasingly been accompanied with lobbying
of campaigns to “free” the Arab woman. These campaigns
unfortunately have deluded many of us in the Islamic/Arab
world. I wonder: Is it the good intentions that make us
expect that the West knows us better than we do know
ourselves? Or is it our blind trust in them that makes us
bless and follow whatever they call us for

Messenger of God replied ‘That the slave-girl gives birth to

Merits of Knowledge
It is necessary from the outset to define and understand
three basic terms. The first one is knowledge. The Arabic
lexicon defines knowledge as “the process whereby a given
thing is perceived as it really is and whereby any uncertainty
about it is removed.” Knowledge is, in fact, the source of
insight that we need to distinguish between what is right
and wrong not only in our religious practices, but also in our
daily lives. Knowledge illuminates man’s path towards
safety and, as such, can be seen as the opposite of our next
term “ignorance”, which is, needless to say, equal to misery
and darkness. Our third term is “mind” that can overlap
sometimes, depending on context, with such terms as
“reason” and “reasoning”. It is an immaterial substance
which renders the unseen perceivable through the use of
some mental mechanisms, and the sensed objects through
sensation.
By the mind, “mindful” people, so often called “sane”, watch
for the straight path, which they must pursue in life so as
not to commit wrongful acts. Mind comes first in all man’s
acts and experience comes second. At the end of the day, it
is mind that can lead man to goodness and righteousness.

‫ وكان آخر األنبياء والمرسلين الَن بي العربّي محّمد (صلى هللا عليه‬،‫الجليل وعظمته‬
‫ وبهما أخرجت الحياة اإلنسانية من‬،‫وسلم) وآخر الكتب السماوية القرآن الكريم‬
‫ وتمت البشرى والنجاة لمن آمن باهلل‬،‫الظلمات إلى النور ومن الّتيه إلى الُرشد‬

God bestowed on man the power to reason, which sets man

aside from other animals. Through this faculty, man can
learn about the greatness of God but also about his own
being. Mind, therefore, serves as a guide for man to
righteousness and salvation and provides him with
safeguards against being corrupted or going astray. Mind is
the standard that is used in the Day of Judgment when
reckoning man for his acts in this life.

God is also merciful and does not mean for His servants a
strenuous journey towards guidance. Rather, He sent them
messengers, prophets and heavenly books to remove any
ignorance or misunderstanding of the secrets of the universe
and the existence of God. Man needs to be awakened and to
learn about the omnipotence of God. Thus, with the last
prophet, Messenger Muhammad, and the last heavenly
book, the Quran, human life has had a chance to get out
from the darkness of digression into the light of
righteousness. It was a good omen by God to mankind. The
omen has been fulfilled and salvation has been attained by
those who believed in God and His messenger.
