TABLE OF CONTENTS
1.1 Summary
A. Scope of Specification
This specification and the contract drawings govern the installation of electrical systems
underground and aboveground on the project. The drawings and specification complement
each other; however, in case of conflicts, the drawings shall govern, because they are
intended to identify all materials and equipment required to assemble the facilities. Any
deviations from the specification or drawings must be authorized in advance by the Owner's
representative.
B. Related Specifications
Coordinate work prescribed by this specification with work prescribed by the above listed
specifications, and other specifications not listed above.
In general, the installation work underground and aboveground shall include all power,
lighting, grounding, and control systems as indicated on the contract drawings and
specifications. In addition, the electrical portion of the instrumentation and
communication, fire and gas detection, and cathodic protection are included as required by
the installation contract. Refer to the installation contract scope of work for particular
details and specific installation requirements for the project.
1.2 References
The publications listed below form part of this specification. Each publication shall be the latest
revision and addendum in effect on the date this specification is issued for construction unless noted
otherwise. Except as modified by the requirements specified herein or the details of the drawings,
work included in this specification shall conform to the applicable provisions of these publications
including, but not limited to, those listed below.

A. Performance Guarantee
3. Deliver a complete set of as built drawings for record to the Owner at completion
of the work.
1. Coordination shall include the checking and review of other discipline drawings
to ensure that no conflicts exist in dimensions or location of equipment.
2. Coordinate the installation of equipment with other trades and schedule work
activities to complete the installation in an orderly fashion to avoid rework.
1.4 Safety
Contractor shall perform all work activities in a safe, professional manner and shall strictly adhere
to all OSHA safety requirements as well as Owner specified safety regulations. As a minimum,
responsible for the following:
In addition, contractor shall be responsible for all related safe working requirements as specified in
the installation contract and as required by Owner during performance of the work.
2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 Materials
B. Any apparatus, appliance, material, or work not shown on drawings or indicated in the
specifications but necessary to make the work complete and ready for operation shall be
furnished, delivered, and installed by contractor without additional expense to Owner.
C. Substitutions for material as called for on the drawings will be permitted only by written
approval of Engineer.
1. Examine and inspect equipment upon receipt for shortages or damage. Conduct
such testing as might be required to establish the condition of the equipment.
3. Carefully close, repair, and restore shipping crates and boxes so as to maintain the
equipment in clean, and like new condition, and avoid loss of parts during storage.
1. After equipment has been received and moved into the storage area, each panel
and cabinet shall be individually unpacked and visually inspected and checked for
correct and complete installation of all parts, components, equipment, and
associated devices in accordance with the manufacturer's drawings. The PT
AMNT Construction Procedure Manual shall be followed in the event equipment
materials are found to be damaged upon receipt. Protective packaging shall then
be re-installed following inspection and shall not be removed until the equipment
is ready to be installed into its permanent location.
2. Move, store and protect equipment and materials from the time of receipt at jobsite
until final installation and acceptance.
3. The type of storage and protection shall be determined from the manufacturer's
instructions and specific instructions from Owner’s representative.
During the installation period and until the work has been finally accepted, properly and
adequately protect raceways and all items of equipment installed from the adverse effects
of water, dampness, dust, falling objects, and injury due to the activities of workmen and
others. In the event that damage occurs to equipment due to negligence at no expense to
the Owner, replace, repair, or have repaired the damaged item subject to the approval of
Owner’s representative.
3.1 General
1. Contract drawings indicate the general layout of the complete electrical system
and show arrangements of feeders, circuits, outlets, switches, controls,
panelboards, substations, service equipment fixtures, and other work.
3. Verify the location and method for connecting to each item of equipment. Bring
discrepancies to Owner's attention for resolution.
4. All equipment and wiring installation must comply with requirements stated in
the NEC for the specified electrical area classification.
Responsible for safe performance of the work without disruption to existing operations
when installation is required in hazardous areas or operating portions of existing plant
facilities. Any and all provisions shall be made as required and specified by Owner’s
representative including safe work permits and inspection of the area for possible work
hazards, conflicts, and interferences.
2. Owner’s representative reserves the right to inspect and test any portion of the
equipment and materials at any time during the installation process. Before
connecting fixtures or equipment to the wiring system, verify that all wiring and
connections are free from short circuits, open circuits, and unintentional grounds.
Test the entire system in the presence of Owner's representative, and verify that
the entire electrical system is properly installed before energization of any portion
of the electrical system. All equipment required to test the electrical system or
system components shall be provided by contractor, and at no expense to Owner.
Shall secure the written permission of Construction Superintendent and Owner’s
representative before energization of any portion of the electrical system.

External damage
1. Store indoors in a clean, dry place with a moderate temperature; cover with plastic
tarp. Install and activate space heaters inside units. Space heaters shall be kept
energized until switchgear is in service.
2. Store switchgear breakers upright and supported so that studs will not be bent or
breaker parts damaged. Do not use moisture absorbing covers, use nonabsorbent
paper.
4. Check floor for levelness. Weld or bolt switchgear and motor control center
structures to floor channels.
5. Inspect equipment and remove shipping members in bus area before testing.
C. Battery Systems
1. Install and charge batteries and battery chargers in accordance with the contract
drawings and manufacturer's instructions.
D. Mechanical Equipment
Install the electrical portion of mechanical equipment items following the manufacturer's
instructions and recommendations. Review and inspect the electrical system installation
to verify compliance with the equipment specifications and related electrical requirements.
A. Conduit Systems
f. All conduit and fitting shall have a minimum of 5 threads fully engaged
at all connections. Running threads or threadless conduit fittings are
prohibited.
j. When conduits of various sizes are banked together, the bends and
offsets must be bent in a concentric fashion. Starting with the inside
conduit, the next bending radius must be increased by the distance of the
center-to-center measurements of the 2 conduits.
k. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) jacket conduit must receive special care when
threading for less than full length installation. Follow manufacturer's
instructions and touch up with PVC spray as soon as conduit is
assembled. Do not bend PVC jacketed conduit except as a last resort;
then use specified roll-type benders. Use manufactured bends or
condulets rather than field bending.
e. Identify conduits at each end of the conduit run and on both sides of a
wall or soffit penetration. The identification number shall match the
conduit number shown on the drawing.

a. Install with gaskets those fittings located indoors and outdoors that are
not explosion proof.
c. Install conduit bushings where wiring leaves the conduit system. All
tapped conduit openings in cast boxes without hubs shall have insulating
sleeves designed to prevent insulation damage.
f. Fit conduit terminations in sheet metal or cast boxes without hubs with
Myers type hubs. Locknuts and busings shall not be acceptable.
g. Wireways and cabinets for equipment shall not contain free knockouts.
Plug unused cut holes with hubs and flush plugs.
2. Fit cable tray with expansion coupling and guides on straight runs.
3. Test cable tray splice plates and expansion couplings to maintain a resistance not
exceeding 1 ohm. All splice plates and couplings shall be tested for ground
continuity.
4. Bond and effectively ground cable trays to provide a continuous path for fault
current. Materials for grounding shall be compatible with those used for the tray
fabrication.
7. Bond conduits, duct, or wire ways feeding or picking up cabling from a cable tray,
to the tray in a manner that maintains continuity of equipment ground.
8. Check the tray load rating to verify capacity for total weight of cable to be
installed in tray.
1. Do not bend single conductor and multi conductor cable to radii smaller than that
specified by the manufacturer or by the NEC. Use special pull boxes or oversized
conduits to meet this requirement.
4. All electrical plastic tape used for joints on thermo set insulation shall be 7 mils
thick, 19 mm wide.
6. Install cables in conduits or cable tray in accordance with conduit and cable
schedule and as shown on the drawings. Any deviations in routing or method of

drawings and cable termination manufacturer's recommendations. Terminations
at cast or sheet metal boxes will use bulkhead type fittings.
10. Neatly train cables without interlacing, and make cables sufficient length in all
boxes and equipment panels to permit making a neat arrangement. Remove
jackets of multi conductor control and instrument cables properly to train and
terminate the conductors. Secure cables in a manner to avoid tension on
conductors or terminals, and protect from mechanical injury and from moisture at
the exposed end. Sharp bends over conduit bushings are prohibited.
11. Damaged cables shall be removed and replaced at no expense to the Owner.
12. Spare conductors in a cable shall allow sufficient length to be terminated in the
farthest point in the enclosure.
D. Grounding
1. Grounding systems shall consist of networks installed around all major process
units, buildings structures, distribution centers, substations, and along pipeways.
Networks shall consist of grounding buses (main cable loops), grounding
electrodes, equipment grounding conductors, and above grade equipment
grounding connection buses. The grounding plans and standard details indicate
the minimum requirements for ground systems.

5. Make grounding system connections for equipment grounds, system grounds, and
grounding electrodes with solderless compression connectors that are accessible
and removable to facilitate inspection and test.
9. When conductor colors other than green/yellow are used for grounding, these
conductors shall be marked at both ends with green/yellow adhesive tape or with
green/yellow heat shrink sleeve.
E. Lighting
1. Final adjustment and aiming of fixtures shall be made under the direction of the
Owner's representative.
4. Fixtures shall be clean at the time of acceptance of the work, and every lamp shall
be operable.
5. All fixtures shall be installed following standard electrical details. Changes shall
be reviewed by Owner’s representative before installation.
7. In horizontal conduit runs that support pendant mounted lighting fixtures, conduit
supports shall be installed as close as practical to vertical drops.
9. Locate lighting panels where there will be at least 910 mm clearance above and
in front of the panel.
F. Instrumentation Wiring
1. Wiring shall be continuous from field device to dedicated terminal points through
field terminal cabinets or other designated terminal strip point. No splicing of
wires in condulets or pulling boxes will be accepted.
2. Signal wire shielding shall be electrically continuous when the cable is passing
through terminal blocks of a junction or terminal box.
3. Conduits housing intrinsically safe systems shall have seals as the conduit enters
control buildings or rooms and as it leaves the underground duct bank system, to
prevent flammable gas from using the raceway to gain entrance to the control
room. However, intrinsically safe wiring within the process area does not require
seals, except to control moisture entry into panels and enclosures.
4. All raceways shall enter terminal cabinets and individual instruments from the
bottom. No top entry conduits are acceptable. For side entry use a Myers Hub
style.
5. All field instrument terminal boxes shall be close coupled to the instrument if not
an integral part of the instrument. Therefore, the flexible conduit connection to
the signal raceway system will be made on the field side of the terminal junction
box. Each flexible connection must have enough raceway to establish a drip loop
before it enters the terminal box.
6. The instrument terminal box shall not be supported on the instrument itself unless
it is an integral part of the instrument. Instruments on intrinsically safe systems
do not require seals except for moisture control. If an instrument is fed from
above, the raceway and conduit system must have a drain installed condulet fitting

ahead of flexible connections. A T-condulet with a drainage fitting mounted on
vertical drops immediately at the flexible connection does not require a drainage
seal at the instrument. Use a union on the load side of the terminal box for
instrument removal.
7. Permanently mark tag signal wiring conductors at every termination point with a
heat shrink label. The label will be visible without disturbing wires.
G. Installation Assemblies
1. Standard installation assembly details as referred from the plan drawings depict
the minimum requirements and typical configuration of equipment and electrical
devices. Installation shall meet or exceed these requirements, whereas
configuration and orientation may be adjusted to suit field conditions.

b. Motors that may be started from a remote location shall be tagged with
a sign stating "CAUTION - THIS MOTOR MAY START
AUTOMATICALLY." This sign shall be made from laminated plastic
(white letters on red background).
3. Painting
All touch-up painting on electrical equipment that may have been damaged during
installation. Do touch-up painting on motors. Touch-up paint for motor control
equipment, switchgear, and power transformers shall be supplied by the
equipment Supplier. All other painting shall be in accordance with the
specifications listed in Section 1.1.B. of this specification.
4.1 Preparation
A. Before laying out work, exercise proper precaution to verify each measurement.
B. Use extreme caution before excavation in existing plant areas to locate existing
underground services.
4.2 Inspection
Visual check of electrical items shall be made before those items are permanently installed.
4.3 Installation
A. Trenching, backfilling, compacting and concrete work shall comply with the specifications
listed in section 1.1.B. of this specification.
B. Concrete work shall comply with specifications listed in Section 1.1.B. of this
specification.
C. Dig trenches to the required depth without pockets or dips. Remove large stones from the
bottom of the trench and compact loose fill in the trench bottom before conduit is laid.
D. Install underground conduit with a minimum 76 mm to 30.5 m slope. Slope the conduit to
a suitable sump area. Refer to the drawings for the desired slope and sump area.
E. Backfill shall be soft dirt or sand tamped into place. Fill trench to the top and restore
surface to its original condition. Remove excess earth. Conduit duct banks shall have a
minimum earth cover of 460 mm.
F. Arrange conduit in tiers, as indicated on the duct bank cross sectional drawing. Place the
conduit in the desired formation so that the vertical and horizontal separation will be no
less than 200 mm between the centers of adjacent conduits.
G. In laying the conduit, stagger all couplings at least 1830 mm, both vertically and
horizontally.
H. Rigid galvanized steel conduit shall be installed where underground conduit turns up to
exit the duct bank. Refer to the electrical installation detail for this requirement.
I. Unless shown otherwise on the drawings, terminate all stub-ups 76 mm above finished
grade elevation surface of concrete.
J. Install a 2.4 mm diameter polyethylene pull rope equivalent to Jetline Products No. 332 in
all spare conduits not containing wire and cable. Cap spare conduit.
K. Encase all conduits in red colored 2500 PSI concrete with a minimum cover of 76 mm on
top, bottom, and sides of conduit. Concrete may be premixed with dye, or dye may be
added to concrete during pouring.
L. Wherever duct banks cross under roadways or rail beds, use galvanized rigid steel conduits
in all cases, extending 1525 mm beyond the edge of the road bed. Minimum depth for duct
bank shall be 1525 mm below top of rail or 910 mm below roadway grade and reinforced
with rebar.
M. Mark underground duct banks with a 152 mm wide yellow polyethylene tape buried 152
mm under the surface directly over the duct banks. Mark the tape thus: Caution -Buried
Electrical Cable.
N. For sealing conduits, use only non thermoplastic compounds such as J. M. Dux seal, or an
equivalent substitute. The compound shall have no effect on rubber or rubber-like
insulations, lead, aluminum, or ferrous alloys; it shall be insoluble in water and withstand
maximum temperature ranges of the locality.
Note!!! This stipulation does not pertain to explosion-proof seals, because they require a
different compound.
O. For cable pulls, use pulling compound specifically for the application.
P. Pre-cast manholes with all accessories as indicated on the drawings. Manholes shall be
forced-air ventilated during installation of cable.
Q. Use rigid galvanized steel conduit wherever installed in concrete floors or foundations of
plant, administration, and ancillary buildings.
R. All underground conduit shall be rigid PVC conduit type DB or equivalent, except as
specified herein or in the drawings.
