DISCOURSE
According to Henry and Tator, 2002( as cited in
Nordquist, 2016), discourse is the way in which
language is used socially to convey broad
HISTORICAL meanings. They emphasized that
language can never be neutral as it bridges our
personal and social words together. Lastly, they
added that it is language identified by these three:
Discourse in Social Sciences
In the context of Social sciences, discourse also has a very important
role to play. Ogden, 2002,( as cited in Nordquist, 2016) describes
discourse as mainly used to describe verbal reports of individuals.
Moreover, they added that it is analyzed by those who are interested in
language, talk, and what people are doing with speech. Lastly, they
emphasized that discourse as an approach in the social sciences studies
the language used to describe the aspects of the world and has tended
to be taken by those using a sociological perspective
HISTORICAL
DISCOURSE
As we define discourse in different aspects,
we are slowly moving closer as to how it is used
in historical context. According to A.P. (2016),
“Thus, by historical discourse is implied a
historical context or array of historical texts
integrated in a certain historical context.
Historical discourse is poly-discursive in its nature
as it embraces different texts reflecting diverse
aspects of human life in the past."
Pantayong Pananaw as a Historical Discourse of
Knowledge System (Mendoza, 2007, 267-268, as
cited in Dela Cruz et. al., 2016, pp. 177- 178)
Pantayong Pananaw introduces a communication-
based theoretical innovation on the study of
Philippine Historiography. This movement helps forge
a “national discourse on civilization. It wishes to
contribute to the “flourishing of a talastasang bayan”
