EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
During electrical installation of county administration block that was meant to accommodate the
council /leaders in order to conduct their official duties each day and in an orderly manner.
The following were carried out.
>laying of conduits
During laying of the conduit 20mm2 PVC heavy gauge conduit pipes for the lighting and power
were used.
For the main supply 38mm2 PVC conduit heavy gauge and for the sub mains 25mm2 PVC
conduits were used.

>Cables
1.5mm2 cables for lighting was used.
2.5mm2 cables for socket connection was used.
>Lighting circuit
Circuit breakers of 10A for lighting were used and 32A for socket were used.
16A circuit breaker for a ceiling fan were used.
>Power circuit
Ring circuit for socket outlet were used for both single and double sockets.
>Test
The following test were carried out:
 Continuity test
 Polarity test
 Resistance test
 Earthing test

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 OBJECTIVES
To ensure there is more socket and switches to enable easy running of appliances within the
administration.
To ensure there is flexible run and working conditions of the administration block.
Ensuring reducing of accidents occurrence in the administration block.
To ensure that there is easy and smooth running of equipments within the administration block.
1.2 AIMS OF THE PROJECT
To ensure the installation is appropriate installed and protected to avoid occurrence of any fault.
To ensure all electrical appliances are well protected to avoid any electrical hazards that may lead
to electrical appliances damage or burns.
To come up with international skills that may be used in modifying old administration block.
1.3 PROJECT ROAD MAP
The project took three months and two weeks to accomplish;
The first month was to mark the areas for various installations, erection of mains supply cables.
Second month was for laying of conduits on the whole building.
Third month was for drawing and fitting accessories.
Then the two weeks was for testing and inspection by the various electrical engineers.
1.4 SPECIFICATION
The project used the following materials:
MATERIALS QUANTITY
P.V.C conduit 20mm2 250pieces
Cable 1.5mm2 8rows
Cable 2.5mm2 15rows
One gang two way switches 15pieces
Two-way switch 13pieces
Conduit flexible 5pieces

CHAPTER TWO
LETERATURE RIVIEW
A. Bulb/Lamp holders-Various types of holders were used such as flash type, hanging type and
surface type to hold and protect lamps.
B. Switches-One way, two way, single and double switches were used to connect and disconnect
the flow of electric current in circuit.

C. Fuse-Cartridge fuse, high breaking capacitor fuse used for circuit protection devices that
automatically blows and cut current when overloaded.
D. Circuit breaker-Maintenance circuit breaker and double circuit breaker used to protect the
circuit by cutting current supply when overloaded.

D. Sockets-Single and double sockets were used during installation.

E. Draw wire-Cobbler used to pull cables in conduit at ease.

F. Wire stripe-Cable cutter used to cut the cables with minimal damage to the insulation.
G. Spirit level -Used to determine if the level of electrical circuit is balanced.

H. Phaser tester-Used to show live wires and circuit breakers to electrical panel.
I. Multimeter-Used to measure voltages, continuity and resistance in the circuit.

J. Pliers-Combined, slip joint and needle nose pliers were used for gripping, twisting and cutting
wires.
K. Chisel-Flat, rand nose, side and cold chisel used for curving and cutting of hard materials.

L. Hammers-Claw, soft, ball peen and sledge hammers were used for framing, nail pulling,
striking masonry drills and steel chisels etc.
M. Conduits-These were used to protect electrical wiring in the block.

CHAPTER THREE
3.1 WIRING SYSTEM
The county administration bock was installed with modern technology system.
The wiring system consists of conductors, insulators and mechanical protection device that the
project of the building was used to install within useful.
3.2 TYPES OF WIRING SYSTEM
3.2.1 Sheathed cable wiring diagram
Consist of paper, rubber or plastic which protect the overall against mechanical damage in
installation of building.
3.2.2 Conduit wiring system
Consists of two types of wiring system namely:
a) Conceal wiring system
b) Surface wiring system
The system were used to be installed in the surface of the project an across the wall when was
used to secure the conduits on the surface.
3.3 FLEXIBLE CONDUITS
In the administration block flexible conduit were used since the insulation are flexible which are
attached to each other to allow more flexibility in the installation.
3.4 P.V.C WIRING SYSTEM
This is used under the floor of the building of the county administration block to prevent oils and
raids affect since they are resistance on it.
3.5 TRUNCK WIRING SYSTEM
Consist of the cables pressed within plastic, trucking aluminium and steel trucking system.
This also allows future extension and multiple conduit takes long in installation therefore it was
not used in the block during installation.
The space factor was also provided to allow ease of access in the building.
3.6 SPECIAL TYPE OF WIRING SYSTEM
This system is multi standard steel wire used to support the suspended building.
The system was used in the building of the project support.
CHAPTER FOUR
DATA ANALYSIS
4.1 TESTING AND INSPECTION
Before testing and inspection is carried out it is important to others and my own sake.
It is important to protect people against danger and also damage in electrical installation that can
cause dangerous risk like;
 Electrical shock
 Burns and fire
 Power supply interruption

TEST RESULTS
Test point Expected result Measured Remarks
Insulation test Resistance value>0 9800 It was within the
ohm limits
Continuity test Continuity at intake 0.9673 Perfect
point “1”
Earth insulation test 1 0.897 Excellent
Polarity test 1 0.9801 Perfect

4.2 FINDINGS
Installation was found to be healthy for the supply of electrical energy.
Its polarity was also confirmed that the current of the live and neutral conductors to be OK.
Earth installation test was approved that electrode and measurement of fail resistance was
perfect.
4.3 CONCLUSION
County administration block building requires qualified complements and registered electrical
engineer and technician to install test and inspect the whole project.
Electrical engineer to check the wiring conduits and installation of the building and workability
of the project.
4.4 RECOMMENDATION OF THE PROJECT INSTALLATION
Electrical design and installation of a county administration block had various task to be
undertaken during installation.
It was installed, tested and inspected by electrical engineer in order to avoid electrical faults and
short circuit that may occur on the block.
A lot of time consumed to design and install the block since it had different offices which
required styles of using different wiring systems.
Precaution needs to be observed as displayed on all pathways and even in offices to avoid
personal danger and property damages. This is because three phase power supply was used in the
block.
4.5COST ANALYSIS OF THE PROJECT
The following is the cost used in the project.
MATERIALS NO. OF ITEMS COST PER ITEM TOTAL
Tape measure 30 200 6000
Bending spring 20 200 4000
