Reflection
1. What are the key areas in which you learned new skills/information about technology
this semester?
Canva is a technology tool that I learned more about this semester. I learned about other uses
for Canva besides creating flyers, and about new ways to generate images. First, Canva has slideshow
templates that can be edited for presentations. When editing these presentations, a new AI feature can
be used to produce detailed images of almost anything that is typed up. I also learned how to animate
images, which can keep presentations more engaging.
2. What are the key areas in which you increased your knowledge about integrating
technology into your teaching?
I found that Youtube has a lot of resources that could be integrated into my teaching. There are
play along tracks, tuners, song tutorials and more. Screencastify is another area of technology that I
could integrate into my teaching. I can create video lessons for my students, or they could complete
projects for me using this site. I also created a webliography with ten sites that I feel would be great
resources for music teachers.
3. Of all the topics we addressed this semester, which one (or more) would you still like
to learn more about?
I would like to learn more about applications like Soundtrap and GarageBand. I am interested
in seeing curriculums incorporating these sites, and how students develop by using them. I would like
to become more comfortable using them, so that I am better equipped to teach my students how to get
the best out of those applications.
4. How would you compare or contrast what you learned this semester from the way
technology was used by your teachers during your K-12 schooling?
I have used Screencast and Canva in my K-12 schooling, but only outside of the music
classroom. Overall, I would say that technology could have played a bigger role in the music classrooms
I took before college. However, I do acknowledge that a lot of these sites are not tailored to the
ensemble classroom, and are geared more toward general music and music technology classrooms. I am
a big fan of Incredibox and Soundtrap, and feel that is a great way to introduce working with loops,
and creating beats. I think that more students could find a future in music production if exposed to
these websites early on in their music education.
5. How would you describe your attitude toward technology now compared to the
beginning of the semester?
I am eager to begin implementing technology in my classrooms. At the beginning of the
semester, I was not as aware of the many ways that technology could be utilized in the classroom. It
provides more ways for students to express their creativity, and increases their engagement.
Additionally, there are many teachers who have created resources to assist educators with their lesson
planning. Other teachers have platforms where they can talk about their experiences and give advice to
others. Overall, I have a positive attitude towards the use of technology in the music classroom.
