Vocabulary:
1. temporary employee (n) / ˈtɛmpərəri ˌɛmplɔɪˈiːz/ : contracted workers who
perform a job for only a short amount of time.
Eg: Henry is a temporary employee at a Vietnam coffee retail store.
2. take early retirement (v) / teɪk ˈɜːli rɪˈtaɪəmənt/: to stop working at a younger age
than most people idiom to retire ( usually from 60 – 65 age)
Eg: Mr. John applied for take early retirement due to heart disease.
3. maternity leave (n) /məˈtɜːnɪti liːv/: a period of absence from work granted to a
mother before and after the birth of her child
Eg: In Vietnam, female employees who give birth are entitled to maternity
leave before and after giving birth for 6 months.
4. sick leave (n) / sɪk liːv/: time allowed off work when sick
Eg: In Vietnam, the number of sick leave days must be based on the
patient's health status but must not exceed 30 days for a certificate of leave
to enjoy social insurance.
6. Investigate (v) [in’vestigeit] – Discover and examine ( all facts about something )
to find out the truth.
⇨ The police were baffled, and Sherlock Holmes was called in to investigate.
7. Delicacy (n) [ ˈdelɪkəsi ] – grace, elegance, elegant look.
⇨ Delicacy of her features.
9. Terrorize (v) [ˈterəraɪz ] - to frighten and threaten people so that they will not
oppose something or will do as they are told
⇨ terrorize somebody drug dealers terrorizing the neighbourhood
11. Doubtful (adj) [ ˈdaʊtfl ] - of a person) not sure; uncertain and feeling doubt
⇨ doubtful (about something) Rose was doubtful about the whole idea.
⇨ doubtful (about doing something) He was doubtful about accepting extra work.
12. Evidence (n) [ˈevɪdəns ] - the facts, signs or objects that make you believe that
something is true
⇨ vidence (of something) Researchers have found clear scientific evidence of a
link between exposure to sun and skin cancer.
⇨ evidence for something There is a growing body of evidence for the existence
of black holes that are ten times as massive as the Sun.
14. Orangutans (n) [əˈræŋətæn] - a large ape (= an animal like a large monkey with no
tail) with long arms and red-brown hair, that lives in Borneo and Sumatra
15. Albatross (n) [ˈælbətrɒs] - a very large white bird with long wings that lives in the
Pacific and Southern Oceans

16. Seek(v):to try to find or get something,espescially something that í not a physical
object

27. Walk of life / wɔːk ɒv laɪf/ : the job someone does or the position they have in
society
Ex: + People from all walks of life use the public library (Mọi người từ mọi tầng
lớp xã hội đều sử dụng thư viện công cộng)
+ There are people who underperform in every walk of life (có những người hoạt
động kém hiệu quả trong mọi bước đi của cuộc đời)
28. Livelihood / ˈlaɪvlɪhʊd/: something such as your work that provides the money
that you need to live
Ex: a development that threatens the livelihood of local small farmers.
29. Delegation / ˌdɛlɪˈgeɪʃən/ : + a group of people who represent a country,
government, or organization
Ex: They agreed to send a delegation to the African summit meeting.
+ The process of giving some of your work, duties, or responsibilities to a less
senior person or a less powerful person.
30. A good/smart/clever career move / ə gʊd/, /smɑːt/, /ˈklɛvə kəˈrɪə muːv /: an action or
change of job that helps you to be successful in your career
Ex: Insulting the boss’s daughter was not a good career move.
