Crocheting toys is an amazing, informative, and pleasant type of needlework.
To create a miracle with your own hands, you need to find the most comfortable
place in the house. Pour delicious tea, turn on your favorite movie or music. Make
yourself comfortable. And magic is guaranteed.
Take a hook, yarn, and start crocheting a platypus.

Please, note that this pattern does not include the lessons of crocheting. You must
have previous knowledge of crochet techniques.

- Terms and abbreviations (US):

- MR – magic ring;
- Sc – single crochet;
- inc - increase 2sc in 1st;
- dec - decrease – sc2tog;
- ch - chain stitch;
- sl st - slip stitch;
- dc - double crochet;
- blo – back loops only;
- (…) – the number of stitches in the row.
The required materials:

- YarnArt jeans № 40, brown (55% cotton, 45% acrylic; 50 gr/160);

- Alize cotton gold № 182, gray (55% cotton, 45% acrylic; 100 gr/330);
- Alpina «Lily» (100% cotton, 50 gr/175);
- D=8/9 mm safety or sewing eyes;
- Stuffing material, fiberfill.
- 1,75 or 2 mm crochet hook (choose the size of hook that matches your yarn)
- tapestry needle for sewing.

The finished product using the materials described in this pattern is 10,2
inches / 26 cm tall.
You can use any other yarn to your taste.
The size of a toy may be different. It depends on the hook size and yarn
you use.
Head
Work with brown color yarn.
1 row – 6 sc into MR;
2 row – inc р х 6 (12);
3 row – (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18);
4 row – (2 sc, inc) х 6 (24);
5 row – (3 sc, inc) х 6 (30);
6 row – (4 sc, inc) х 6 (36);

Insert safety eyes between 16 and 17 rows. The distance between the eyes is 14 sc.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Beak
Work with gray color yarn.
1 row – chain 5;
2 row – start working into the 2nd st from hook, inc, 2 sc, 3 sc into the first stitch, turn
and work on the other side of the chain – 2 sc, inc (11);
3 row – 2 inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc, inc (17);
4 row – (1 sc, inc) х 2, 2 sc, (1 sc, inc) х 3, 4 sc, inc (23);
5 – 13 rows (9 rows) – 23 sc.
Cut yarn, and hide the tail inside.
Stuff the detail before stuffing.
Sew beak between rows 16-22 of the head.
Sculpt the beak between 6 and 7 rows. The distance between the sculpting is 4 sc.
Arms
Work with gray color yarn.
The first finger
1 row – 6 sc into MR;
2 – 3 row – 6 sc.
Cur yarn. Make the second finger.
The 3rd finger
1 row – 6 sc into MR;
2 row – (1 sc, inc) х 3 (9);
3 – 5 rows – 9 sc.
Continue working on the third finger – dec, 1 sc, dec. Attach the first finger – 3 sc on it.
Attach the second finger, 6 sc on it. Continue working 3 sc on the first finger. 1 sc, dec,
1 sc on the first finger (18).
6 row – 18 sc;
Switch to brown color yarn. Stuff the fingers with fiberfill.
7 row – 18 sc;
8 row (4 sc, dec) х 3 (15);
9 – 11 rows – 15 sc;
12 row – (3 sc, dec) х 3 (12);
13 – 20 rows (8 row) – 12 sc.
Stuff the arms lightly only in the bottom.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing
the arms to the body.
Make the second arm similarly.
Sew the arms on both sides of the body.
Legs
Start working with grey color yarn.
Foot
1 row – chain 7;
2 row – start working into the 2nd st from hook 5 sc, 3 sc into the first st. Turn and work
on the other side 4 sc, inc (14);
3 row – 2 inc, 3 sc, 3 inc, 5 sc, inc (20);
4 row – (1 sc, inc) х 2,3 sc, (1 sc, inc) х 3,6 sc, inc (26);
5 – 6 rows – 26 sc;
Continue working with brown color yarn.
7 – 8 rows – 26 sc;
9 row – (11 sc, dec) х 2 (24). Decrease on both sides of the foot. Make sift sts if
needed.
10 row – 24 sc;
11 row – (2 sc, dec) х 6 (18);
12 – 14 rows – 18 sc;
Stuff the foot with fiberfill.
15 row – (1 sc, dec) х 6 (12);
16 row – dec х 6.
Cut yarn, and hide the tail inside.
Lower leg

Work with brown color yarn.

1 row – continue working on the foot. Work 12 sc on the foot;

2 row – (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18);

3 – 5 rows – 18 sc;
6 row – (5 sc, inc) х 3 (21);
7 row – 21 sc;
8 row – (6 sc, inc) х 3 (24);
9 row – 24 sc;
10 row – (3 sc, inc) х 6 (30);
11 – 13 rows – 30 sc;
14 row – (3 sc, dec) х 6 (24);
15 row – (2 sc, dec) х 6 (18);
Stuff the lower leg with fiberfill.
16 row – (1 sc, dec) х 6 (12);
17 row – dec х 6.
Cut yarn, and hide the tail inside.
Make the second leg similarly.
Sew the legs on both sides of the body.

Tail
Work with brown color yarn.
1 row – 6 sc into MR;
2 row – inc х 6 (12);
3 row – (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18);
4 row – (2 sc, inc) х 6 (24);
5 row – 24 sc;
6 row – (3 sc, inc) х 6 (30);
7 – 10 row (4 row) – 30 sc;
11 row – (3 sc, dec) х 6 (24);
12 – 13 row – 24 sc;
14 row – (2 sc, dec) х 6 (18);
15 – 21 row (7 row) – 18 sc.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff the bottom of the tail lightly.
Sew the tail to row 65.
 Congratulations! You`ve got wonderful platypus!

Dress up our platypus. Crochet a dress.

Work the dress in back and forth rows.

Make a turning chain at the end of each row, turn.

Start working with turquoise color yarn.

1 row – chain 35;
2 row – sc, start working into the 2nd st from hook.
We made 34 sc;
3 row – 5 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 10 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 5 sc;
4 row – 1 dc, *skip 1 st of the previous row, work
into the next st – (1 dc, ch, 1 dc),
continue working to the end of the row (from *), 1 dc;

Continue making 2 ch at the end of each row, turn.

5 row – (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 3, 7 ch,

skip 10 sts, (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 6,
7 ch, skip 10 sts, (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 3,
1 dc;

with yellow color yarn

6 – 7 rows – (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 18, 1 dc;

With green color yarn

8 – 9 rows - (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 18, 1dc;

With turquoise color yarn

10 – 11 rows - (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 18, 1dc;

With yellow color yarn

12 – 13 rows – (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 18, 1dc;

With green color yarn

14 – 15 rows - (2 dc, ch, 2 dc) х 18, 1dc.

Cut yarn. Hide the tails. Sew the buttons. Put the dress on the toy.
